FILINGFCABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 688,768, dated December 10, 1901i Application filed May 27, 1901. Serial No. 62,147. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it' 'may concer/vt:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL T. YOUNG, of Glasgow, in the county of Barren and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Filing-Cabinets, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention is an improvement in devices for the filing of deposit-slips, previouslyfcanceled checks, or other papers which it may be desired to file alphabetically or in other regular order; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will behereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing the ligure is a perspective View of a le embodying my invention.
The file or cabinet shown includes a base A, from which projects a standard B, forming a stand or support for the revolving body C, which preferably includes the two trays or receptacles D and E, made polygonal, with the flat side sections D and E' connected by the rods E and having their base-plates D2 and E2 extended outwardly, forming shelves on which the papers may be secured by the pins G and over the edges of which the papers may hang, as shown in the drawing. The pins G may be of any suitable construction; but I prefer that shown, in which they are represented as flat plates pointed at their upper ends and arranged parallel with and about opposite the middles of their respective flat sections D or E', as shown. By this construction the papers filed may be placed with their square ends against the flat side sections and will be held thereby and by the iiat pins from turning, as will be understood from the drawing, thus preventing the iiled papers from turning out of line and aiding in causing the le or cabinet to always present a neat appearance. For convenience the sections D and El` may be inscribed with letters, as shown, or other suitable indicating characters to aid in referring to the papers filed. The trays may be utilized to receive pins, rubber stamps, or other small articles useful in office business.
It should vbe understood that the apparatus described is designed for the iiling of depositslips, and it may be desirable to use it in connection with the filing apparatus shown in my application for patent Serial No. 52,307 and especially designed for the iiling of canceled checks, the apparatus described in the present application representing the credit side of the ledger and that illustrated in my application Serial No. 52,307 representing the debit side of the ledger. As the devices are intended to be used together as well as separately, I provide each with a corresponding number (twelve) of characters, which corre= spend on the two machines, this being helpful in posting from the fact that it makes it more convenient to recall the characters which are associated together.
In ling the deposit-slips they are put on face down, this being done to prevent any outsider from seeing the name of the depositor and such other matter as might be on the face of the paper, this difficulty being increased by arranging the free ends of the depositslips to hang downwardly at an incline, as shown in the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A file or cabinet composed of the base, the upright shaft thereon, thebody supported on said shaft and consisting of the upper and lower polygonal trays having flat side sections and their base-plates extended laterally, and provided opposite said fiat side sections with the iiling-pins for the papers, and the rods connecting the upper and lower trays substantially as set forth.
2. A file or cabinet comprising a stand or support, a body having the iiat side sections and the flange extending outwardly at the base thereof and the filing-pins opposite said flat sides and arranged to receive the filed papers whose end edges may rest against the flat sides, and which may hang over the outer dgelal of the dangeplate substantially as set ort 3. A iile or cabinet comprising a stand or support, upper and lower connected trays thereon and having outwardly projecting base-flanges and filing-pins on said flanges substantially as set forth. l
A. A iile or cabinet composed of the stand or support, a tray having flat side sections and a base-flange, and the flat filing-pins mounted on the base-flan ge, opposite and parallel with their respective fiat side sections of the tray substantially as set forth.
SAMUEL T. YOUNG.
