Description

No. 688,605. Patented Deo. IIL-190|.
F. G. NETZ. GABMENT SUPPURTEB.
(Applicationled May 28, 1901,)
(No Model.)
UNITED Artnr ritiene cnamEnr-SUPPoa'rERI SPECIFICATION forming peet of Lettere Patent Ne. 688,605, dated Deee'rnbei- 1o, 190i;
Application filed May 23, 1901.
fo all whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, FRANCIS G. DIETZ, a citizen of the United States, residingat New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of garment-supporting devices which are disclosed in my Patent No. 676,676, dated June 18, 1901, in which a clamp is employed for attaching the device to a corset having a hook secured thereto and extending outwardly therefrom, the said hook being formed with an upwardlyextending loop for the attachment of the waistL band of a shirt=waist, a downwardly-extending loop for the attachment and support of a skirt, and an upwardly-extendin g loop for the reception of a waist-belt.
My present invention resides in the particular construction of clamp with which the supporting device is provided, the object of the same being to simplify and cheapen the construction of the supporting device as a whole and to provide novel means whereby the same may be rigidly and securely attached to the corset.
The invention consists of a plate having a garment-supporting hook secured thereto and bent at a point intermediate its ends to form two inwardly-spring-pressed clamping members, each of said members being provided with a lug, teat, or projection, the said lugs lying in line with each other and adapted to fit within one of the eyelets of the corset.
The invention also consists in certain fea tures and details of construction, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this speciiication, Figure l is a perspective View of my improved supporter. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section. v
Like reference-numerals indicatelike parts in the different views.
My improved supporting device is made up of the plate l of sheet metal bent at the point 2 intermediate its ends to form the clamping members 3 and el. To the clamping member 3 is rigidly secured in any suitable manner a supportingehook 5, bent downwardly at its point of attachment with the member 3 to form with said member an upwardly-extending loop 6, afterward bent upwardly to form a downwardly-extending loop 7, and then bent outwardly and downwardly to form the upwardly=extending loop 8.. When in place upon the corset, the loop 6 serves as a retaining device for holding the shirt-waist down along the Waist-line, the loop 7 serves as a support and means of attachment for the skirt, and the loop 8 serves to receive the waist-belt and to prevent the same from riding upwardly. The bands of the shirt-waist and skirt, respectively, are preferably pro- Vided with eyelets for the reception of the hook 5. On the inner surface of the clamping member 3 opposite the hook 5 is formed a lug, teat, or projection 9, and on the inner surface of the clamping member 4 directly opposite the lug or teat 9 is a corresponding lug or teat l0. y
In applying the device to the corset ll the clamping members 3 and a of the plate l are placed on opposite sides of the corset, with the lugs or teats 9 and l0 fitting within one of the eyelets usually provided along the meeting edges of the different parts of the corset. Then thus in place, the spring clamping members 3 and 4 serve to prevent the accidental detachment of the lugs or teats 9 and lO from the corset-eyelet in which they are located, and theusupporter is thereby rigidly held in place. Various garments may be attached to the hook 5 in the manner described, and when so attached they will be held or supported in place from the corset, thereby relieving the hips or body of the wearer from the weight of the same.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a garmentsupporter comprising a plate bent at a point intermediate its ends to form inwardlyespringpressed clamping members, each of said clamping members having a lug or teat on its inner face, the said lugs or teats lying in line with each other and adapted to lit within a corset-eyelet,and a supporting-hook secured to said plateA In testimony whereof l have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit nesses,
FRANCIS G. DIETZ.
