Definitions
- My invention consists in an improved method of rendering whips water-proof by covering or coating the exterior of the same with a composition or compositions substantially as hereinafter specified, whereby the article is rendered more durable than it has heretofore been.
- the composition I propose to employ for this purpose consists of about equal parts of twice-boiled linseed oil and finely-powdered coloring matter, such as yellow ochre.
- the composition is made of about the consistency of paste, and it is applied to the exterior of the hips by rubbing the same into the meshes of the covering or body of the same. This may be done by grasping some of the composition in the hand and then clutching the whip and running the hand up and down the same to work the composition in. If more than one application is necessary, the operation may be repeated after the first coating has snfiiciently dried. When sufficient of the composition has been put on and dried, the surface may be ground 05 smooth with pumice-stone or other suitable grinding material. A coat of copal or other varnish should then be applied to the smoothen ed surface of the coating.
- My invention as hereinbefore stat-ed, consists in an improved method or process for treating whips forthe purpose of rendering them water-proof, and 'in carrying out such method or process 'I employ a composition or compositions such'as specified, or any equivalentonc, whereby the desired result is obtained in a most satisfactory manner.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, M. ANTON, of Huntington, in the county of Suffolk, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improved Method of Coating and Water-Proofing Whips; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention consists in an improved method of rendering whips water-proof by covering or coating the exterior of the same with a composition or compositions substantially as hereinafter specified, whereby the article is rendered more durable than it has heretofore been.
The composition I propose to employ for this purpose consists of about equal parts of twice-boiled linseed oil and finely-powdered coloring matter, such as yellow ochre. The composition is made of about the consistency of paste, and it is applied to the exterior of the hips by rubbing the same into the meshes of the covering or body of the same.
By treating these articles in the above-described manner they may be rendered water-proof, which greatly increases their value. Their exterior is smooth and glossy, and by reason of such treatment are rendered more durable and better in very many respects.
I do not claim independently the composition herein described for coating such articles. My invention, as hereinbefore stat-ed, consists in an improved method or process for treating whips forthe purpose of rendering them water-proof, and 'in carrying out such method or process 'I employ a composition or compositions such'as specified, or any equivalentonc, whereby the desired result is obtained in a most satisfactory manner.
WhatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The process or method of rendering ivater-proof whips by coating or covering the same with a suitable composition or compositions, substantially such as herein set forth, and in the manner substantially herein specified.
\ M. ANTON.
