Be it known that I, SECLH W. IERKINS, of Geneseo, in the county of Henry, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Combined SnapfI-Iook and Buckle; and I do hereby declare that'the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the artto make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, in which- Figure l is a view of my improved snap-hook and buckle attached to a strap. l

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved combined sna'phook and buckle, simple in construetion, strong and durable. easily attached and detached. and which can bc manufactured at a comparatively small expense; and it consists in the construction of the snap-hook, and in the combination therewith of a single or double buckle tongue, the whole being constructed and arranged as 'hereinafter more fully described.

A is the snap-hook, which is formsd of u. single piece of wire` the middle part of which is flattened and bentv around upon itself, as shown in figs. 1 and 2, to form the ring or loop al for the attachment of the strap. The ends of the wire are twisted so as to mal-:e a quarter turn around each other, and are then flattened and bent into hooks, which overlap and lie along each other, as shown in fig. 2, a groove being formed between the hooks at the end of the snap for convenience in attaching it to a ring. B is the buckle-tongue, which is clasped or bent around the inner coil of the loop a, and its longer end rests 'upon the outer coil or coils of said loop, as shown in tig. 2, and its shorter end projects as shown.

In attaching the strap it is first put over the longer arm of the tongue, and drawn up to the base of said arm. The other end or arm of the tongue is then passed through the stra-p, the end of which is passed through the keeper, after which the strap is brought back to its proper place upon the longer arm of the said tongue. If desired, a single or ordinary tongue may be used, but I/.prefer the double '-tongue, as herein described, as being less liable to tear out of the strap.l -This enables the snap-hook to be used as a buckle to attach it to the strap at the same time that it is used as a. snap-hook and attached to a. ring. By slightly modify-ing the form of the loop al the snap-hook may be used as a snap cock-eye for all the purposes to which a' cock-eye is ordinarily applied. Y

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*v An improved snap-hook, formed of a single piece .of wire bent into substantialljr the form shown and described, that is to say, with a ring loop, al, to receive the strap, and with its hooked ends a overlapping each other, in combination with the single or double buckle tongue, as and for the purpose set forth.
