Beit known that I, WILLIAM A. ROBINSON, of the city of Grand Rapids, Kent county, Michigan', have invented a. new and useful Buckle for Fastening Hemos; and I do hereby decla-re that the following is a full and exact description of said invention, reference being had to the attached drawings, making a part of these specifications. Y

My said invention consists of- First. Agree-ved har,'A, having an eye at one-end'by which the saine maybe attached to the haines. There is n shoulder, b, on the bach of said bar, about one-third the distance from thc other end, and another shoulder on each of the two sides, `G O, say one-quarter of an inch further on; and a spring, CZ, on the back, extending from said shoulder 5 about one-third the length of said bar, the other end of which spring is laid in a short groove, and is fastened toits place by rivetingthe 'sides of the groove on toit.

Second. A loop, E, of sulieien't size to allow said groored har A to go throng-'n it until it passes over the shoulder vZ7 and comes against the shoulders O O, which, when in its natural position under the spring d, lies diagonally across the sides of said bnr A. This loop operates as a paWl on the ratchet-bar, hereinafter: described.' There is alla-nge on each side of -the outer end of the loop, so arranged tha-t when the loop is brought back against thc shoulders C O, the ratchet-har may he withdrawn without difficulty. I

Third. A ratchet-bar, F, haring nn eye atene end, by which the same may he attached to lthe hames. This bnr is so formed on the back as to 't the groove in bar A, and has a flange on each side of the teeth, which corne againstv the flanges on theloop E, and enable it to be withdrawn from the loop Without liability of catching.

The whole is to be made of metal.

'ihe process of hnckling the haines is performed by bringingthe ratchet-bar F into the groove of bnr A, and pressing yit' through the loop E to the required tension, when the onter end-ofi'. said loop, hy the action of the spring CZ, will be brought between the teeth on bar F, and will hold the hames to their place;

The process of unbuckling is performed by pulling on the outer end of the loopE until it comes back against the shoulders O O, when the bars may vbe easily separated. A

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p The combination of the grooved and ratchet-bars A and F with the spring cZ and loose loop E, said'loose loop operating in connection with the shoulders b and O, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
