TO WHOMIT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JAMES CORY, of Wayne, in the county of Wayne, and State of-Michigan, have invented n new and useful Improvement in Buckles; and I dodeclare that the following isaI true and accurate description thereof, reference being had'to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my`invention.
Figure 2 is the same, attached to double rein used in driving two horses.
Like letters in'dicate like parts. Y
The object of this invention is to so construct a buckle, with two hails and two tongues,- so that it will hold when being pulled upon in either a. forward or backward direction.
The invention consists a double buckle, with two hails, A, one cross-bar, B, and twotongues, C, projecting from and pivoted to the cross-bar, in opposite directions, the outer end of each resting upon the hails A.
By the use of this buckle, should a strap or rein of a harness break, it can instantly he repaired, thereby saving, many times, the necessity of splicing, and saving much trouble wh'en on the road, and away from ordinary conveniences for repairs. I am aware that a buckle with two hails is in very common use, one bail being usedfor the tongue to rest upon, whilethe other is designed to act as a loop, to hold the end of the strap.
I base my claim upon converting a buckle with-two hails in to a double buckle, which will hold from either direction.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The arrangement of the tongue C'and cross-bar B, in connection with the bails A, in such a manner that each tongue shall operate on its bail without any intermediate bar, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
JAMES GORY.
