Description

(No Modal.)
Patented Oct. I5, |90I. J. W. RUNNER.
ATTACHMENT FOR CUFFS AND GUFF BUTTONS.
(Application led Dec. 20. 1900.)
tl'nirnn Sterns Parnnr @lrrrcnm JAMES VAIJLACE RUNNER, OF SHELBY, MICHIGAN.
ATTACHMENT FDR CUFFS AND CUFFsBUTTONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Eatent No. 684,724, dated October 15, 1901.
Application filed December 20, 1900. Serial No. 40,532. (No modeL) To @ZZ when?, it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES WALLACE RUN- NER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Shelby, in the county of Oceana and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Cuffs and Gulf-Buttons, of which the following is a fuli, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved attachment for cuffs and cuff-buttons to prevent the cuff-buttons from rattling, especially when in use on celluloid or similar waterproof cuffs.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter1 and then pointed out in the claim.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in'all the views.
Figure l is a perspective view of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is a sec-tional plan View of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the improvement, and Fig. 4iis a transverse section of the same on the line 4t 4f in Fig.
The attachment consists, essentially, of a spring A, held on the shank B of a cuff-button B and interposed between the innerhead B2 of the cuff-button and the inside of the cuff C, as is illustrated in Figs. l and 2. The
spring A is so arranged that it exerts a pressure on the cuff-button in the direction of the length of the shank to prevent the cuff-but ton from rattling on the cuff.
As illustrated in the drawings, the spring A is preferably in the form of a U-shaped plate of spring material, such as Celluloid or the like, and is formed with registering slots A for the passage of the shank B', the slots having reduced portions A2 for the passage of the plate upon the shank, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 2.l
The device is very simple and durable in construction, can be readily applied, and does notV interfere in any way with the workings or appearance of the cuff-button B, which may be of any approved construction and have a removable outer head or not, as desired.
Having thus fullydeseribed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As a new article of manufacture, an attachment for culfs and cuff-buttons adapted to be interposed between the inner head of a button and the cuff to prevent the button from rattling, the sanne consisting of a U- shaped plate of spring material having each of its members provided with an opening having a reduced portion leading out through the edge of the member, the openings and the reduced portions thereof of the members of the plate registering with each other, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnessesb JAMES WALLACE RUNNER.
Witnesses:
A. E. SOUTER, C. W. TALLANT.
