This invention relates toan improved construction of a. fastening for the ends ot'iron l1oops to secure them on e. cotton or other bale, and consists in a malleable east-iron or other met-al plate, having n. slot in it wideand long enough to admit the two ends of a hoop side by side-'when inserted in the slot to secure them, and provided with a pin projection in the slot to pass through a hole to be made in one end of the hoop, and another pin project-ion on the under side ofthe plate to go through the other end of thehoop, when the ends are fastened, in order to secure and prevent them from slipping. i Y
A is the metal plate, made thicker in the middle than at the ends, and having a cross-slot, a, extending from one side nearly across the plate, as shown in `tig. I. On the inside of the slot va is a projecting pin, c, on one wing, t2, of the plate, and on the under side ofthe other wing' d is another projecting pin, a', both of which pins pass through holes to be punched in the iron hoop Il, as shown in iig. 2. 'The lap e of the hoop is introduced-in slot a from the upper side of the plate A, and lieu iat under the plate :1nd the hoop next the bale to which it is attached; and the pin cJ passes through o. hole in the lap e. The lap e on the other end ot' the hoop is introduced into the slot a from the under side of thel plate, and lies flut onthe upper :side of the plattand the hoop, and the pin cl passes through the lap e to `hold it fast.
Having described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent'- A cotton-bale tie, formed of a metal plete, A, having a slot, a, nearly across it, and t-hepins e u ou the wings d d, constructed and operating as herein specified.
