Description
I PATENTBD JULY 30,'186'7'. v C. H. LITTLEFIELD. METALLIC LOOP,
S Q Pax@ N@ QSE CHARLES LITTLEFIELD, OF TURNER, MAINE.
Letters Patent'No. 67,822, dated July 30, 1867.4
IMPROVEMENT IN METALLIC LOOP.
@tht Sibenik nimmt in in this: rtttrs Extent :mt making part nf the sans.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it 'known that I, CHARLES H. LITTLBFIELD, of Turner, in the county of Androscoggin, ond State of Maine, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Breast-Plates for Harnesses; and I hereby declare the following to be a, full, clenr, and exact description thereof, which will enable others to mske and use my invention, rference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciication, in which the figure marked breast-plate" and shoulder-strap shjovrs s side elevation of a. breast-plate und shoulder-strap withmy improvement attached'thereto, and the two figures marked metallic loop before struck up show the forms of the meful employed t'o construct myA improvement.
My invention consists of a piece of' metnhso .beritorform-ed at one eind ns to hold a buckle, and to allow the tongue of the buckle` to pass through a slot made in such bent end, und having, furthermore, wings or projecting pieces to overlap the different pieces or straps of a harness, the whole toA securean increased durability, and to prevent wearing or chafing of the, harness by the carriage or otherwise. l
Ido not claim to be the first inventor of a metullicloop for harnesses in any form, for I am :more of Letters Patent granted to C. W. Snlndee, August 5, 1865, and I do not claim-fastening buckles to harness by menne of rivets and a metallic plate, the plate being the back bnr of the buckle flattened out, and having a. metallic loop. This invention diers from mine, both in the construction of the metallic plate, and also in the fuct that it has no loop such as is shown in the patent o? Salades. Furthermore, my invention differs from the above-recited patent in the manner in which the different straps of tho harness are connected therewith. Y
I do not claim a metallic plate which is thc back bnr of a. buckle flattened out, when the said plate has a. loop or aperture, sind whenv the harness-strap is secured thereto by passing around -the buck bar of the buckle, so as to receive the tongue of the buckle, and then'on both sides of the metallic plate until one part of said double strap is passed up through the aperture or slot in the plete, und then both portions of the strap rest on the same side of the plete.
My invention, more simple thnn this. consists of n piece of metal which is bent so as to receive the buck bnr of u buckle, and with two wings to receive and confine a stra-por portion of a harness. In the accompanying drnwings- H shows that portion of the piece of metal intended to be bent down at 1 in o'rder to hold the buckle. C is the aperture for the tongue of the buckle to pass through. When thus bent down this portion `is held in place by a. rivet passing through the holes 2 2. A A and B B'show the wings intended to be pressed down and overlap a'4 harness-strap, as shown for example ot 3. This is also illustrated iu the .ligure mnrlredbbreast-` plate," where the plate is'reprcsented betvl'een the outer und inner strep of the breast-plete, with the wings A A partially overlapping the barncssstrap. In this case the plate is secured .to the straps by rivets. Thus it will be seen that the wear or strain of the back barof the button is brought exclusively upon the. part H ot' the metal plate when bent, which is 'not the case in the patent of Saludee. Increased durability and firmness are thus given to the connections ofthe different parts of harnesses.
What I eluim ns my invention, and desire' to secureby Let-ters Patent, is
The metallic plate of the described form, when the part H is bent, us described, to receive und retain the buckle, and when the wings A or B nre turned over so ns to lop the harness-strap, as find for the purposes described.
CHARLES l l LITTLEFIELD.
