JOHN C. BONNELL, CF FORT MADISON, IOWA.
Letters Patent No. 67,258, dated July 30, 1867.
IMPROVED SASH-SUPPORT. AND FASTENER.
@tige Sdgemle nrmh In iu tigen etters atent anh making gmt nf the same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, J. C. BONNELL, of Fort Madison, in the county of Lee7 and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Combined Sash-Fastener and Check; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A represents a window-sash of any usual construction, and B represents the window-casing. C represents a metallic box. 'which consists simply of two disks, separated a. suitable distance, and connected by a, strap which forms a part of the metal from which they are eut. This box is secured to the Asash by means of u. screw, 2:. D represents the catch or Cheek, which consists of a piece of metal, a portion of which is made in disk or wheel-shape, with an irregular-shaped projection or beuk upon it, as is fully represented.
The disk portion of this catch or check is pivoted eccentrically between the two parts of the box C in such a position that when the sash is down its (the catchs) beak or projection will take into a recess formed to receive .it in the side of the casing B. When it is desired to raise the sash the beak of the catch is withv drawn from the recess. After the sash is raised, the beak falling away from the casing causes the disk portion of the catch to bind against the easing on the lower side ofthe box in such a manner that the sash cannot fail, but is held securely up. By moving lthe beak again towards the casing the sash may be lowered. When the beak takes into the recess in the casing the sash is held firmly down, and cannot be raised until it is removed, as has been set forth. l
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, und desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.-
The combined dog and cam D, having a beak upon its outer en'd and a shoulder on its top, whereby the beak may catch into the opening in the sash and check the window, or support the same by its cam in the desired position, when arranged within a metal box, C, formed of one piece of metal, and held in position, as well as being pivoted by the screws that connect the box tothe frame, as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 22d day of April, 1867'.
JOHN C. BONNELL.
