EMILY I-I. VRIGHT, OF NEW YORK, N. Yi., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILKINSON DE FOREST WRIGHT, OF SAME PLACE.
BUST-FORM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 671,257, dated. April. 2, 1901.
l Application filed October 1,1900. Serial No. 31,651. (No model.)
To atl?, whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILY H. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the' county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bust-Form, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved bust-form which is simple and durable in construction, easily attached to a corset, and arranged to readily maintain its form and to give the outer garment a proper hang, the bust-form having sufficient dexibility to readily conform to the motions of the body without discomfort to the wearer.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a perspective view of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the improvement, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same.
'lhe bust-form illustrated in Fig. l consists of two parts A A', alike in construction and arranged for attachment to the upper edge of a corset B, so as to form an upward extension of the corset, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. l. Each of the parts A A of the bust-form consists, essentially, of a 4 ner fabric C', preferably gauze, shirred in the corset.
such a manner as to give the desired curvature to the body of the bust-form. The lower edges of the fabrics are attached to a pocket or sheath D, containing a piece E of whalebone or other suitable material and curved to give the desired shape to the-lower edge of the bust-form, so that this lower edge corresponds to the shape of the upper edge of The top and side edges of the fabrics O C' are secured to a band F, fastened at its ends to the ends of the sheath or pocket, it being understood that this band F receives the shirred upper ends of the fabrics, and the shirrs are drawn together, so as toigive the` desired spherical shape to the body portion of the bust-form.
In order to give the desired stiffness to the body portion, I prefer to use a coarser stiffer fabric for the inside of the body than for the outside; but it is expressly understood that the fabrics O O are both shirred and drawn together at their upper and side edges and fastened to the band F, so as to give the desired spherical shape to the bust-form and maintain its shape when the device is used.
The fabrics forming the body portion of the bust-form are of sufficient flexibility to allow the bust-form to readily conform to the motions of the body without discomfort to the wearer.
The two parts A and A may be fastened together at their adjacent edges by hooks and eyes or similar fastening devices, and an additional lining may be used for the inside of the bust-form body, the lining being either secured on the hust-form or attached to and forming an extension 0f the corset. The
pocket D is preferably sewed to the edge of ture to the bust-form and allow the body of the form to readily conform to busts of different sizes without any alteration of the binding edges of the form.
Having thus fully described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- A busteform consisting` of two similarparts, eachcomprising a body formed of an outer shirred fabric and an inner shirred fabric, a band extending along the top and side edges of the body to hold the fabrics in a shirred position, the outer shirred fabric being larger than the inner and gathered closer IOO Io piece secured in said pocket to give the desired curvature to the lower edge of the body, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
EMILY H. WRIGHT.
