IMPROVEMNT IN LIITING-JAGK.

Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. CLARK, of the city of Detroit, in the county of Wayne, in the State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Carriage-Jacks; ,and I do declare 'that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification. i I

The nature of my invention consists in using thelever A attached to the standardB by the hinge C C.

In using this jack, I place the standard B in proper position; then raise the end of the lever A by the handle G suoiently to allow the end of the lever A nearest the fulcrum to hear on the under side ofthe axle of the wagon to be raised; then depress the outer end of the lever A until the' end nearest the fulcrum is high enough to allow the pawl E to catch in the ratchet D, when the end of the' lever may be released, and the jack will support the Weight imposed, and without danger of falling. When not in use, the jack may be folded up, as in fig. I, and secured by hook F.

What I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, ise- The combination and arrangement of the lever A, the standard B, the hinge C C, ratchet D, pawl and hook F, for the purposes above described.
