Letter A represents the lframe; letter B the ratchet-wheel, forming also the enges oi' the drum; letter C the lever; letter d the dog dropping into the ratchet'wheel; letter e the fall attached to the lever for the purpose of working the drum; Aletter Fthe friction-brake working in slotig, in the standard h; letterg is a slot; letter h is' a stand-ard {let-ter I is a flange projecting from the outer ffice of the ratchet-wheel', letter J is the winch; letters K K are grooved pulleys; letter L is' a cross-benin letter M is a post. l
The motive powerfef` the-derrickl I make of iron or any other desired material, and in Ithe manner as described in thedrawings hereto attached. I
I operette my derrick b'y fasten-ing one end of a rope, chain, or leather helt to the drum of the derrick, and from there passing over the cross-beam on vthe post, over the grooved pulleys, and to the other end of the rope is fastened a hook or ring. By raising the lever the fll attached will drop into the ratchet-wheel, and then, by pressing down onthe'lever, as represented in the drawings by dotted lines, the ratchet-wheel will turn, thereby winding up on the drum the rope and raisingA the weight attnched t-O-the hook or ring. When it is vdesired tolower anything attached to'the hook 'or ring, the frictionfhrake working in the slot g in the standard' "h is4 dropped on the ange of the ratchet-Wheel, ns represented in the drawings by dotted' lines, and the flange attached to the let'er is hooked on to the end of said brake, and by pressing down on the lever will allow the rope to pass off ofthe drum as slowly as may hedesired; The friction-hmke-mny also be attached to the lower end of the frnme und press against the flange of the ratchet-wheel, if desired.
I do not claim thel improvement of Francis M. Everingham `n wagon hey-rack, patented December 4,-
1866, but what claim es my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The described derrick and all'the parts as arranged..
