Description

V@nite-ir ftent atrnt @fitte RUSSEL B. PRINDLE, OF lNORWIGH, `NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 68,003, dated August 20, 1867. I
IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-JACK.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, RUSSEL B.15nINnLn, of Norwich, in the county of Chenango, in the Stuteot New York, have .invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon and Lifting-Jacks, for other purposes; and the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to'the'accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which@ c I Figure 1 represents a side View section through the jack.
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of' the Wagon-jack.
Figure 3 shows a side view of the adjustable lifting-jack for wagons and other purposes. Figure 4 is a. front view of the same-with the lifting portion depressed.
The object of' my invention is to furnish a cheap wagon'and universal jack, that will hold the weight lifted by its own gravity. i .i I A My invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination ofthe post, sliding gate, with its hooks attached, the connecting-rodand crooked fulcrum-lever by which the thing is lifted and held in position without any other agency or the aid of. other fixtures; also in the adjustable bars' on the slidingrgate.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will describe it more fully, rferring to the drawings and to the letters marked thereon.
The post A may be made 'of hard wood, oi' any suitable size, with grooves a a cut in thelower portion of it in which to {t the sliding-gate B. When the 'gate B is in its place the post A is tirmly secured to the base-block C, so that it will stand upright. In the top of the post A there is anlopening, d, in which the crooked fulcruinlever D is hung, it being connected by a. rod, E, tothe sliding-gate B, so that the lift-ing on the hooks-e e is' dirnctly in a line with the post, and when the fulcrum fof' the lever D isbrought vto or past the centre of the' fulcrum-pin g the article lifted is sustained firmly in the elevated position by'its own gravity. For th". purpose of taking hold of any object above the fulerum-lever D, I have a frame made with two side pieces, L ft, secured together at the top by a cross-piece,j, the slides k L working in slight grooves in the.sides of the post A, they having' a series of pin-holes, z'z'z'z', through the lower portion, in which a rod or pin,k, may beput to hold them to the sliding-gate B, the pin answering the purpose of the hooks e e for lifting light weights. The series.
of holes z'z' provides foradjusting the frame to any desired height, so that a light wagon-jack may be made useful for other and a great variety of purposes, as shown in gs. 3 and 4.
The advantages of my improved wagon and liftingjack, as above described, willbe readily seen and easily understood, the crooked fulcrumlever answering the twofold purposeof raising and holding the weight when raised. They may be made of various sizes, so as to be applied to all the various purposes for which a leverjack canbe used. c i
What I claim as my invention, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement and combination of the slotted post A, sliding-Date B, with its hooks c c, connecting-rod E, and crooked fulcruui-lever D, whereby the weight is raised and held by the lever without the aid oi' other fixtures, as herein described. i
I also claim the adjustable slide-frame /t /i attached to the gate B in the manner described, operating substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
It. B. PRINDLE.
