To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM S. ALTER and ELLIS IV. ANOHORS,citizens of the United States of America, residing at Tarentum, in
the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain and WVindow- Blind Supports; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to an improved ourtain and window-blind support; and it con- [5 sists in the certain details of construction and combination of parts as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improved Windowblind and curtain support,which is constructed and arranged in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a modified form of joining the upper portion of the sliding tube to the blind and curtain supports.
To put our invention into practice, we provide two tubes 1 and 2, the one capable of being telescope/d within the other and the two tubes made rigid at any desired position by means of a thumb-screw 3. Attached to the top and bottom of the inner tube 2 are attachments 6 and 7, which by means of woodscrews serve as a means of securing the same in a vertical position upon a window or door frame. The bottom attachment 6 is connected to the rod 2 by a sleeve 1 and thumbscrew 5 and may be adjusted along the length of the said rod 2, while the upper attachment 7 is made rigid with the rod 2. Connected to the top of the tube 1 is a fitting 8, in which is secured a bar or tube 9, arranged in a horizontal position, and is adapted to stretch across the window or door frame and to be lengthened or shortened by a tube 10, operating over the said bar 9 and held in the desired position by means of a thumb-screw 11. Attached to the outer end of the tube 10 is a fitting 12, provided at the base with a clip 13, having a slot 14 for the reception of one end of the window-blind 15, the other end of the blind being supported in a socket 163, formed on the tube 1. Connected to the four-way fitting 12 and to the opposite fitting S are outwardly-projecting arms 19 and 20, respectively, which form a support for the curtainpole 23, the said arms being each formed with bent loops 21 and small binding-screws 22.
In operation the bar 2 is attached by the clips 6 7 and adjusted to correspond to the length of the window or door frame and are secured thereon in a vertical position. The telescopic tubes 9 and 10 are adjusted to fit the width of the blind 15 and the curtain-pole 23 arranged in the loops 21. The outer end of the extension-tube 10 or its fitting 12 is provided with a projecting 'piece l0,which is adapted to rest upon a nail 12, driven into the frame, and form a support for this end of the apparatus.
The curtain and its pole 23 and shade or blind and its pole 15 may be revolved at right angles with the Window or door frame by simply releasing the thumb-screw 3 and, if desired, dropped down within reach of the operator to remove the curtain or shade or to replace the same.
By the use of an apparatus constructed as described the curtain-pole and curtain, together with the blind 15, may be turned away from the window or lowered to within a short distance of the floor for the purpose of cleaning the windows, removing the curtain or blind, or otherwise adjusting or repairing the same.
Various slight modifications and changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention.
