TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Beit known that L'GEORGE W. FOX, of the county of St. Joseph, in the State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful ii'n tirovement in Gate-Hangings, which is designed to be used as farm-gates, in outer or crossfenoes, and can be opened at any time over all ordinary obstructions, such as snow or unevenness of ground, by raising the gate on the hinge-bar above and clearing the obstruction, it can also be adjusted at any desire ble height by means of the set-screw in the sliding-ring at the lower hinge; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and

(1 represents the gate; 6 the post upon which the hangings are attached. The posts and gate are the same as in ordinary farm-gates, except that the-posts are made higher. a, the hinge-bar, bent at each end at right angles, and extending through the post, is held by the nuts screwed on the ends. cl is a hinge rest, encircling the bar a, and acts as a brace to the bary'it also extends through the post, and is held by the nut on the end. 6 e are hinges, encircling the her 0, and fastened in the post of the gate proper. f, a ring fitting the bar, and having in it the set-screw g. This ring slides freely upon the hinge-bar, as do also the hinges e e; and by lifting them up, and sliding the ring up to the lower hinge, it can be held at any height by turning the setserew against the hinge-bar.
