Letters Patent No'. 66,576, dated July 9, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-SHADES.
TO ALL PERSONS TO WHO THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME:
Beit known that I, JAMEs E'MERY, of Bucksport, in the county of Hancock, and State of Maine, have invented :lnew and useful or improved Lump-Shade or Screen; and .do hereby. declare the same to be fully described in the following specification, ond represented Vin the accompanying drawings, of Which- Figure l is a front view.

In such drawings, A denotes a, screen nl :ldc of pnstehonrd or other suitable material, and of a. rectangular or other suitable sha-pe, and provided with two slits, a a, made through it to receive a thin carrier or strip of 'metnh B. This carrier is trifurcuted :tt its upper, and is bent around at or neztr its lower end, as shown at b.
The middle one, c, of the three prongs c d d of the cnil-ier, is bent in the form of :t hook, and eachof the other prongs is bent with respect to the restof the carrier in manner as exhibited in the drawings. The carrier slides through the slits of the screen, the friction of the slits on the carrier serving to overcome the weight of the screen, and rctnin it in any position within the limits of its motion in such carrier.
