MASON B. FRANKLIN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
WIN DOVV-SHADE PULL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 11915.
Application filed. April 23, 1915. Serial No. 23,530.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAsoN B. FRANKLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Window-Shade Pull, of which the following is a specification.
The purpose of my invention is to provide a practical and eflicient pull for window shades and the like, which can be easily and readily attached to any window shade, and detached therefrom without injury to either the shade or the curtain stick; and which furthermore is adapted to receive any desired ornamentation.
To these ends my invention consists in the new and useful construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation showing my invention operatively attached to a curtain shade and stick, shown partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, with the curtain stick in section. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal central section of Fig 1. Fig. i is an elevation of one of the gripping jaws of my invention.
Similar reference letters and numerals refer to like parts throughout the drawings.
A represents the curtain or shade, and B the curtain stick.
1 is a practically U-shaped body formed of, preferably, fiat metal, with its opposite limhs ornamentally turned inward toward each other and spaced a distance apart, as shown, and also with a flat base perforated to permit the passage therethrough of a screw shank, as hereinafter described. Near the upper end of each of said limbs 1 on the inner face of each, I loosely mount, for tilting and rocking movements a clamping disk or jaw 2, preferably concavo-convex, and preferably furrowed, file-like, on their inner faces, and each provided with a perforated downwardly extending integral lip 2 (Figs. 2, 3, 4). Said disks are oppositely disposed and their perforated lips 2 are engaged by the loop of a screw-eye 3, the threaded shank 8 of which operates freely through the perforated base 1 of the body 1, and is operated by an internally threaded sleeve or nut 4 carrying an operating ring 4- and arranged and adapted to be screwed up along said shank against the Hat base 1 of the body 1 to thereby draw said screweye downward and cause said disks to tilt inward toward each other and immovably clamp the curtain and its stick between them, as shown in Fig. 1. Reversing the sleeve 4 relieves the disks from tension and allows them to separate and release the curtain and its stick. The limbs 1 are sufliciently resilient to enable them to be drawn inward toward each other as the tension of the screw-eye 3 is exerted on the disks, and to spring backward away from each other as such tension is relaxed. The common extension cord, as 5, and the ball or tassel 6 may be attached to the ring 4 in the usual manner. (Fig. 1.)
The body and the inwardly turned sides of the limbs thereof may be of any ornamental configuration, and they furthermore aiford ample opportunity for any desired ornamentation and decoration.
My invention further has the decided ad vantage of obviating the objectionable necessity of puncturing the curtain and its stick for the attachment of the curtain pull, as is the common practice.
My invention can be attached to and removed from any curtain without injuring or defacing either the curtain or its stick.
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A window shade pull comprising a U-shaped body provided with a perforated base and opposite spring limbs perpendicular to said base. clamping disks each provided with a perforated downward. extending integral lip and loosely mounted opposite each other on the inner faces of said spring limbs for tilting movements, a screw eye engaging said lips and provided with a threaded shank operating freely through said perforated base, and an annular threaded sleeve operatively engaging the threaded shank of said screw-eye.
2. In a window shade pull, the combination and arrangement of a body having a perforated base and oppositely disposed limbs perpendicular to said base, concavoforated base, and an internally threaded nut convex clamping disks tlltlngly mounted on 1n operatlve engagement \vlth said shank.
the inner faces of said limbs, and each pro- 1 T L T Y T vided With a pendant perforated lip, a MASOA FRAUD IXLIL' screw-eye having a loop in engagement with Vitnesses:
said perforated lips, and also a threaded FRED A. SWEET,
shank operating freely through said per- PARKER L. MONROE.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
