Description
Louis PRITCHARD, or .BR-.oon'r'..vNr-NnvvV YORK.
Letters Patent No. 93,120, dated July 27, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN' SLATES.
The Schedule referred to in these'Letters Patent andy makingjpart o f the same r To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LoUIs PInTcHARD, 'of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, and in the State of-New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Slates; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descliption thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a slate, and in th'e arrangement of certain devices hercafter set forth and described.
Figure l is a perspective of my invention.
Figure 2 is a section view of the same.
Letter A represents an ordinary slate,`in which the slate extends up only a part of the wayin-:the frame B.
In the upper part of the 'ame, there is a wide groove eut, iirwhich there are placed two small panes of glass, C, leaving a space between them wide enough to slip down a copy, lwhich the child is to imitate.
Upon the top ci' the slate, there is placed a metal plate, G, the edges of' which are turned upwards, so as to form a bed, in which the lower edges of the panes' are to rest.
In order to'change the copies, whenever desired, l the upper cross-piece D ot the frame has been pivoted .to the frame, so that it can be raised upright, when a new one can be inserted between the panes, and the piece/then be closed down.
Upon the end of this piece, there is a small rodlike projection, which catches in the aperture iu the at spring E, secured to the side of the frame, whereby it is securely held.
The metal plate G extends across the ame, and
the ends passing through slots in the side of the frame,
are then clinched.
In order to prevent the panes of glass from being jarred, or rattling, a small wedge is inserted between their ends, on the inside, which presses -them tightly against the frame.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, land desire to secure by Letters'Patent, is
The pivoted cross-piece D, when provided with a rod-like projection upon its end, so as to catch in the fiat spring E, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 12th day of May, 1869. LOUIS PRITCHARD. Witnesses:
F. A. LEHMANN, j J. M. Sroors.
