Description

@gutter tatr @anni @Hirn SAMUEL L. HILL, OF BROOKLYN,` NEW YORK. Letters Patent No. 71,878, dated December 10, 18.67.
GARD-HOLDER.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: p
Be it known thatI, SAMUEL L. HILInof Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a new and improved Card-Holder for holding and preserving business-cards and I do declare' the following to be a full, clear, andcorreot description of my invention, reference 'being had to the accompany- -ing drawings, making part of this specification, and to the letters of .reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1, a front view of my invention.
Figure 2, an end view of the same.
In the drawings like partsof the invention arepointed out by the same letters of reference.
The nature of my inventioniconssts in the construction, as more fully hereinafter set forth, of an improved card-holder for holding business or other cards. 1 v 1 i. V
To enable those skilled in the arts to make and use my invention, I will describe the construction and operation of .the same. y
A shows the back or support of my improved card-holder, made of wood or any suitable material, and surmounted by a. beading, ya. From the top oi this back or support, extending any desired distance, is the bevelled piece of wood, or any suitable material to support the thin strips of wood, or any suitable material. This bevellcd piece of wood extends entirely across theback or support and is distinguished upon the drawing as b. C shows thin strips of wood, or any substitute for the sqame, as stcel,-rubber, or any substance that will answer the purpose, which strips of wood extend across the back or support A, and are so arranged that they shall overlap'eaeh other. The upper'strip may havev its upper end4 glued or tacked to the bevelled piece of wood e, and its bottom end tacked to the same should it extend suilicicntly for this purpose, and if not, the
lower end of the same is tacked to the `base or support A. The following strip is then tacked at its lower end either to the bevelled piece b, if the same extend a suiciept distance, or to the frame itself, and is so placed that its upper portion shall overlap the lower portion of the first strip. The other strips are arranged in the same manner, and the last or bottom strip may -be glued or nailed about one-eighth of an inch from the bottom of the support, to allow the wood or'other substitute employed to spring suiliciently to allow. the card to be inserted and held beneath the same. The cards to be held areA inserted beneath the overlapping ends of the strips C. p
The advantages afforded by the construction of a card-holder, as described, are its simplicity, low cost of manufacture, and the fact that cards are more readily inserted within the salue, and that a greater number of cards can bedisplayed in the same sized holder than in any made upon 'the plan now in vogue.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a back or support, I claim the use orV employment of any number of strips when the sanne shall be constructed and combined substantially as shown for the purpose specified.
S. L. HILL.
