MPROVED BOOT-JACK.

To ALL wHoM ITMAY coNcERN.
Be it known that I, HENRY D. BOSS, of Williamsburg, Kings county, New York, have invented a new and useful improvementin Boolhfacksg and I do hereby decla-re that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
The present invention consists in inserting within and around the inside ot' thcjaws to a boot-jack, wherein the heel of the boot isplaced to be drawn oil, a s? ip of India rubber or similar material, to form the bearing surface of the said jaws for .the boo.. heel, whereby its slipping is entirely prevented, and a most perfect and reliable hold secured fol-the jack to the boot as it is being drawn off of the foot thereby. In the accompanying plate of drawings, my improvement in boot-jacks is illustrated-- l Figure 1 being a top view of a boot-jack having it applied thereto and Figure 2.a central section taken in the plane of the line :E x, fig. 1, and in the direction of the lengthv of the jack.

A, in the drawings, represents a boot-jack, which, except so far as the present invention extends, may be of any ofthe forms or shapes and construction now in common use. B, tbejaws to the jack, around and in which, forming its inside edge C, is secured in any properwmanner, a. strip, D, of India rubber or other similar material, to constitute the bearing surface or surfaces of the said jaws upon the boot heel. By the rubber strip within, and constituting `the bearing surfaces oi' the boot-jack to the heel of the boot when inserted therein for being pulled off, all slipping of the boot is prevented, and a most firm and reliable hold scoured therefor.
I claim as new, and desireto 'secure by Letters Patenty A boot-jaek having the inside .of its jaws provided with an India-rubber bearing surface for the boot heel inserted therein, 'substantially as andV for the purpose speciiied.
