Design No. 2,820, dated November 5, 1867.
DESIGN FOR CANS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN BARRY, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Design for Cans; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear and exact description of the nature thereof, sufiicient to enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to fully understand and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a. side elevation of a can constructed according to my design.
Figure 2 is a top view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
My invention is a design for cans to be used for any purpose, and consists of an unbroken cylindrical body and countersun iiehwe snumieiiontlre body byn si ngle lap-joint, thus dispe si ng with solder, and forming a new and useful device, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, A represents thebody of the can, which is to be constructed of cylindrical form, and having its top and bottom edges to project outwardly. It will be seen that the body has a uniform surface, which is unbroken to the commencement of the projecting edges.
The unbroken curved lines of the can form a design and configuration pleasing and attractive to the eye, quite a contrast to the sharp, harsh lines of the com men can.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design of the configuration of the can, as described and shown.
To the above I have signed my name this 23d day of September, 1807.
