Description
No. 665,703. Patented Ian. 8, I90l. C. STREIFF.
HAIR RECEIVER. (Application made. a, 1900.;
(No Model.)
W/ TNE SSE S UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES STREIFF, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAIR-RECEIVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 665,703, dated January 8, 1901.
T0 ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES STREIFF, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Receivers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved hairreceiver for ladies use in which the combings of hair as they are removed from the comb or brush may be conveniently stored away and covered up, so as to be out of sight.
The invention consists of a hair-receiver comprising a cup-shaped body, an interior cover having a central opening and being seated in said body, and an exterior cover the lower edge of which is of lessinterior diameter than the diameter of the interior cover and rests on the rim of the said body, as 'will be hereinafter fully described and then claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved hair-receiver. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the exterior cover as removed from the body of the receiver. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the receiver and its interior cover, showing the exterior cover removed; and Fig. 4 is a vertical central section of my improved hair-receiver.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates the cup -shaped body of my improved hair-receiver, which is made in the shape of a shallow cup and provided at its interior, below the rim, with an annular shoulder a, which forms a seat for the interior cover B. The interior cover B is dished and provided with a central opening b, through which the rolled-up combings of the hair are inserted. An exterior cover O, which is provided at a slight distance above its lower edge or rim cl with an outer circumferential shoulder d, fits on the rim of the cupshaped body A and closes the body and interior cover. The edge or rim d fits inside the rim of body A and is of less diameter than that of the interior cover B, so that the rim of the latter is located between the shoulder of the body A and the interior edge or rim d of the cover 0. The result of this construction is that no care need be taken in removing the covered hair-receiver from one place to another, except to hold the cover 0 and body A together, as in all positions the interior cover will be held to its seat and will not become Application filed October 3, 1900. dislocated. Besides, if there be a large quantity of hair in the receiver, tending to lift the interior cover from its seat, the exterior cover will hold it down. The cover 0 is provided with a handle H, so as to permit the convenient lifting off and replacing of the cover on the body A. Body A and the cover 0 are of the same diameter at their joint, so as to form a rounded structure with smooth practicallyunbroken surfaces at the joints.
My improved hair-receiver is preferably made of porcelain; but it can be made of any other suitable material. It is intended to be used on ladies toilet-tables to receive the combings of the hair, so as to avoid the laying about of the same on the table. When the hair-receiver is in use, the cover 0 is removed and the combings are inserted into the cup-shaped body A through the aperture 1) in the interior cover B. When the toilet is completed, the cover is replaced on the body and the receiver thereby closed up, so that the combings in the same cannot be seen. From time to time the combirigs are removed from the receiver, which forms a very effectiveand convenient-device for ladies toilettables for receiving combings.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A hair-receiver, consisting of a cupshaped body, an interior cover seated in said body, and having an aperture, and an exterior cover of less interior diameter than that of the interiorcover, but of the same diameter as that of said body, said exterior cover being seated on the said body, substantially as set forth.
2. A hair receiver, consisting of a cupshaped body provided with an interior annular seat below its rim, an interior cover resting on said seat and provided with an enlarged central aperture, and an exterior cover pro- IOO my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
