L. TURNER. Bag Holder;
'Patented July 2, 186 7.

LAFAYETTE TURNER, 0F CEDAR RAPIDS, 1-0 WA. Letters Pafent No. 66,424, dated July 2, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-HOLDERS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: V i
Be it known that I, LAFAYETTE TUItNER, of Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn, and State of Iowa, have invented a new and improved Bag-Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereoflwhich will enable others skilled in 'the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a device for holding the bags during the process of filling, and for closing there when filled.
It consists in an adjustable frame set on pins on the ground. The mouth of the bag is folded over the ends and the bag hangs down within the frame, which is then stretched by means of a hinged adjustahlecross-piece or bar. A clutch closes the bag when filled, beneath which the string is passed and tied.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective view of my improved bag-holder.
A A A A are the uprights, set upon pins a a a a, to prevent the frame from slipping. B and b, fixed cross-pieces or bars. 0 G C O, cross-pieces, movable on the pivots c c tc, enabling the uprights A A to be folded on either side of A A. The bag to be filled is placed upon the frame in the position shown in the drawing, the hinged crossgpiece'D, hinged at d and d, hanging loose to enable the mouth of the bag to be hung over the frame. The endof the cross piece is then placed in one of the notches a a a, and pressed down into the position D, thereby stretching the bag open and preventing the frame from collapsing. When filled, the mouth is closed by the clutch E, and the string passed below the clutch, and the mouth firmly closed.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An adjustable folding and gathering bag-holder, having its frame so connected by bars hung upon pivots as to enable its sides to lie upon each other when closed, and furnished on one side with an adjustable hinged cross-piece or bar to stretch the frame,;substantially as shown and described.
LAFAYETTE TURNER.
