Description

E. K. WILSON.
BAG HOLDER.
NO. 411,701. I Patented Sept. "24, 1889 Q ww/ e i k WW 1 iZZZerworzWZVa7a.
M WM L UNITED STATES FFICE.
PATENT,
BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,701, dated September 24, 1889. Application filed June 29, 1889. Serial No. 316,003. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMERSON K. \VILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cherryfield, in the county of Washington and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bagholders; and it has for its object to provide a device of this character that will be simple and cheap in construction and very efficient in operation.
The invention consists in the peculiar coinbinations and the construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bagholder embodying my improvements, as designed for bagging measured material. Fig. 2 is a like view showing the device applied to a scale for bagging material that has not been measured, but which as it is bagged is designed to be weighed upon the scales.
Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a standard formed of two parts a and a, connected together so as to be vertically or longitudinally adjustable, a set-screw I) being provided to hold the parts in their adjusted position. I'Vhen designed to be used for bagging measured material, I secure this standard to a suitable base, as 0, (shown in Fig. 1,) the same being braced by means of a suitable brace, as d. When applied to a scale, the base is omitted and the standard secured to the platform of the scale, as shown in Fig. 2, in any convenient manner. Pivotally secured to the upper part of the standard, as at e, is the holder B, which consists of a preferably one tallic support, the forward portion of which is formed with the jaws or arms f, provided with suitable teeth or holding means 9 for the bag.
In Fig. 1 this holder is shown as having attaohed thereto the box or scoop G, to which the teeth are attached, the front side of the scoop or box being cutaway, as shown at g, to allow the material to be readily poured therein, forming a rest for the measure, as will be readily understood.
In Fig. 2,where the material is to be weighed, the scoop is dispensed with, the bag being designed to be secured to the teeth on the aws.
After the bag has been filled it is desirable to remove the strain thereon in order to allow of the removing of the same from the teeth or hooks. In order to do this the holder is pivoted, as above described, on a horizontal pivot c. It is held in its normal position-that shown in the drawings in full linesby means of a spring-catch D, which consists of a springmetal plate attached at one end to the standard and atits free end formed witha shoulder g and a tapered or rounded face h. This engages the rearward extension of the holder, and when the bag has been filled and it is desired to remove the same the spring-catch is moved so as to disengage the said rearward extension, when the weight of the scoop or jaws and the bag will cause the same to drop, as shown by dotted lines. After the bag has been removed the jaws are turned back into their normal position, when the rearward extension thereof rides down the inclined face of the catch, and are automatically locked in position ready to repeat the operation of fill ing the bag.
By means of a device constructed as above described the process of bag-filling may be carried out very rapidly and with very little trouble or exertion.
What I claim as new is-- 1. In a bag-holder, a standard consisting of a stationary part recessed upon its rear side and a vertically-adj ustable part fitting within the recess and held in its adjusted position by a thumb-screw, in combination with a spring-catch carried by the adjustable part and abag-holding device pivotally connected to the upper end of the adjustable part of the standard, and having a rearward U-shaped extension adapted to automatically engage with said spring-catch, substantially as shown and forwardly-inclined upper face, substanand described. tially as shown and described, and for the 2. The bag-holder described, consisting of purpose specified. the adjustable standard, the jaws pivotally In testimony that I claim the above I have connected with the upper part of said standhereunto subscribed my name in the presence I 5 ard by means of a horizontal pivot and proof two Witnesses.
Vided with a rearward extension, and a spring- EMERSON K. WILSON. plate attached at its lower end to the rear Witnesses: side of the upper part of said standard, and O. E. JACOBS,
ro formed at its upper end with a square shoulder S. S. HUTCHINSON.
