Description

an upright lever, c attached to it, by means of which the plate a can be drawn close against the inner side of the bar 2;. By means of springcatchesf which are pivoted to the ends of the bar '11, the latter can be held in any desired position on the end pieces of s, the said spring-catches fitting into the teeth on s, as is clearly shown in Fig. 9. When a bag is to be attached the bar 1; is first set at the required distance from the center piece of 8, according to the size of the bag. The frame 8 e is then turned up, and thus (the pins it being eccentric) the edge of the plate to is cleared to allow the edge of the bag to be folded over it. Then the frame is folded down into the horizontal position again, and the edge of the bag will be clamped between 3 and 'w, as seen in Fig. 8. The opposite edge of the bag is then folded over the plate a and the latter then drawn by the lever 6 toward 2), whereby the bag is clamped between a and ed, as is also shownin Fig. 8. The frame 8 v rests in the horizontal position on a horizontal brace, V, which is arranged stationary in the frame of the wing A. The lower end of the bag rests upon a board, W, of which one end is pivoted to the frame A, while the other end is suspended by a rope, cord, or ribbon, W, from a horizontal shaft, i, by which the suspended end of the board W can be raised and lowered, said shaft 7? being provided with a crank, ratchet-wheel, and pawl for the purpose. The board can thus be raised or lowered to accommodate the size of bag used. WVhen the bag is thus held the gate 1 is opened, when the grain will fall from the hopper into the bag, until the latter is filled, when the gate will be reclosed, the bag tied and removed and a new one inserted, &c.
A seat, X, is arranged in front of the bagholder. The person attending to the opening and closing of the gate 0", to the tying, removing, and clampingof the bags, is seated therein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The device herein shown and described for raising and lowering the sickle-bar, or
, rather the whole front of the apparatus, said device consisting of the upright screw 1), nutc on arm d, the latter being hinged to the tongue 0, while the screw b is swiveled in the framework ofthe machine, the tongueC being hinged at its rear end by a horizontal bolt, 7' substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
. more eccentric-shafts, K, substantially as herein shown and described.
5. The method herein shown and described of moving the endless apron U by means of two flexible or rubber rollers, Q and l, which bite the under side of the apron, substantially as herein shown and described.
6. Lining the edges of the endless apron G with cords or strings m, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
7. The manner herein shown and described of regulating the blast of the fan a in the cylinder R by means of the sliding inclined plate P, substantially as set forth.
8. The application of a blast of air which is created by means of a fan, 9 in a drum, S, and tube I, for the purpose of elevating grain to the hopper U, substantially as herein shown and described.
9. The bag-holder, when consisting of the U-shaped bar 8, which is hinged to the side of the frame of the machine, and which is combined with the bar V and plates to and 0. the latter being operated by a lever. c, and all beingmade and operated substantially as herein shown and described.
10. The combination, with the above, of an up-and-down adjustable board, W, substantially as set forth.
11. The combined comb and rake, consisting of the bar X, hinged rod m, tines Y, and revolvin g toothed reel B, all made and operating substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 18th day of March, 1867.
