FOGG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Biddeford, in the county of York and State of Maine, have invented certain new.' and useful lmprovements in Travelers HatConformers; and I do' hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. My invention relates to improvements in travelers hat-conformers.

It consists of a rigid form adapted to beinserted within ahat or cap when the same is put or kept within a trunk, so as to` retain thelshape of the capot' hat and prevent it fromV being crushed. It has been found necessary for people traveling with *a limited amount of baggage, especially as in the case of officers of the army and navy, Where it is necessary for them to carry one or more hats of 'various styles, to pack them in their ordinary trunks. rllhis has always been a cause of annoyance to the persons and injury to the cap from the fact that as the trunk is moved from place to place and its contents jostled Within it the cap is likely to be crushed. h

My invention is designed to obviate this difficulty and at the same time to provide a receptacle which will not entirely fill up the space within the hat or cap which has been previously used asa receptacle for small or light articles.

The same letters of reference refer to like parts in both figures.

In said drawings, A represents a cap which may be of any form, the cap shown in the illustration being such a cap as is adopted by the United States Army. Said cap is provided With a vizor or projection B.

I do not wish to be limited to this form, as my device can be applied With equal utility to any form or shape of hat provided with the so-called vizor or with a rim extending entirely around the bottom of the hat, the only variation necessary being the increasing or decreasing of the angle made by said rim or lia-nge with the sides of the conformer. The conformer, as will be seen at H in the drawings, extends below the lower edges of the cap. This is to prevent the bottom of the cap from be ing crushed or distorted when being carried in a trunk or bag. My conformer is also provid-ed with a cover or bott-om piece I, which is attached to the main body in any desired manner. As shown in the drawings, it is by means of bits of ribbon J, so as to admit of the same being easily removed from the conformer, if so Idesired. I also provide a mirror K, which .may be attached in any suitable manner to the bottom of 'the conformer. The inner portion of the conformer is provided with a rim or shoulder L, upon' which the cover I is adapted to rest. This serves to prevent the cover from being forced beyond'the predetermined distance into the hollow or open space in the conformer. By constructing the cover in this manner and having the same fit closely within the conformer it presents additional means of strength by giving an equal thrust to all portions of the conformer and in this way thoroughly prevents the sides of the c0n former from collapsing. The conformer being hollow can be used as a receptacle for small articles, such as handkerchiefs and stockings, or asa carrier for toilet articles.

I do not Wish to be limited to the exactl IOO form of conformer as shown in thedrawings, as slight alterations in form and con figuration can be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention and its use, I Claim*- 1`. In atravelers hat-conformer, rigid Walls, a top piece attached thereto, a cover detachably connected to said Walls and adapted to rest upon a shoulder running around the 'inner sides of said Walls and to serve as a shoulder running around the inner sides of said Walls and to serve as a strengthener therefor and a rim running at an angle from the lower extremity of the walls thereof to conform to the shape ofthe vizor or rim of a cap, the depth 0f. the conformer being greater than the depth of the cap.

In atravelers hat-con former, rigid Walls, a top provided with beveled corners on its -outer edges, a shoulder on the. inner sides of the Walls and near the lower extremity there- 0f, a cover detachably hinged 'to said Walls adapted to tightly fit within the same and rest upon theshoulder, a mirror attached to the inner side of said cover and a rim or flange running at an angle to the Walls-thereof, the height of the walls of Vthe conformer being greater than the depth of the hat in which it is inserted.
