TRAVELING-CASE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 651,079, dated June 5, 1900. Application filed November 1,1899. Serial No. 735577. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL R. LINDENBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at O0- lumbus,-in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Traveling-Gases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the improvement of traveling-cases; and the objects of my invention are to provide a traveling-case with improved means whereby the same may be readily converted from a uniform-carrying case into an ordinary suit-case, to construct" parts In carrying out my invention I employ an ordinary oblongtraveling-case, which, as indicated in the drawings, is preferably of the usual suit-case form and consists of a box or body portion 1, to one side of which is suitably hinged a cover 2, the latter adapted to be closed down upon and locked in connection with said body. Heretofore it has been customary for Knights Templars and members of other uniform bodies to provide a uni form-case the body of which is formed with one or more rigid partitions for the production of compartments of desirable shape for the support of uniform parts, and particularly for the reception and proper retention of a chapeau or helmet. Cases of this kind, while designed and convenient for the carrying and packing of uniform parts, are ordinarily inconvenient for packing and carrying ordinary clothing. In order to overcome this difficulty, I have provided the body or box portion 1 of my improved case with a removable partition 3, this partition in the case illustrated being curved and made to extend diagonally across the box-body and result in the formation of an angle or corner pocket or receptacle 4, which is particularly designed to receive a ohapeau and retain the latter against injury. In order to admit of the withdrawal of this partition when desired, and thereby convert the case into an ordinary traveling-case, 1 form each end of the partition 3 with an angular rigid extension-strip 5, the outturned outer lip portions of these strips, which are indicated at 5*, being adapted to be inserted vertically between the outturned lip portions 6 of angular keepers 7, which are secured, as indicated, at suitable points on the inner sides of the body. It is obvious that in the manner above described the partition 3 may be readily inserted or withdrawn from the case-body and that although the arrangement and curvature of the partition herein shown is particularly adapted to provide a chapeau-compartment other forms and arrangements of detachable partitions may be provided.
It is evident that the construction described will afford a ready means of converting a uniform-case into an ordinary traveling-case and that the construction of my improved partition is simple and inexpensive.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a traveling-case, the combination with a case-body having a cover and angular keeperstrips secured to the inner surfaces of opposite sides and near opposite ends of said casebody, of a partition-strip having angular end extensions adapted to detachably engage said keepers, substantially as specified.
CARL R. LINDENBERG.
