Description

@auch tetes getest @fitte GEORGE REVELL, 0E NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
Leners Patent No. 66,150, dated June 25, 1867.
IMPROVBD BAG-HINGE.
@ttiitlgehnle moet tu in there tettets @stent :mt mating pnt nf tige time voe- TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Beit known that I, GEORGE HAvELL, of Newark, in the county of Essex, and in the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Travelling-Bag Hinges; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings vand to the letters of reference marked thereon, making al part of this specification.
A Arepresent portions of the two parts of a, travelling-bag freine which are to be hinged together'. B represents a metallic plate Which forms one portion of theA hinge. This plete 'is ornamented in any desirable manner on its outer face, and may be provided with pins or lugs :I: x on .its inner fece, by means of whichlit is riveted to the freme-piece A. C represents the other portionof this hinge. which consists of a barwith a. cylindrical head cast upon it; a portion of said heed being turned down or cast, (or otherwise formerh) smaller for the purposc'of `forming a bearing o'r journal 'with a shoulder, as seen in Figure 1. `The journal thus formed fits snugly in an opening or hole in one end of the plate B, end is there rivet-ed sov that it cannot come out, but not so that it cannot turn easily. A hole is drilled or out through the cylindrical head d from end to end, and
the rod or wire H, which forms the bottom portion of the bag-frame, is passed through this hole and is rivetedV in said head. The bei" C has pins cast or otherwise formed upon one side for the purpose' ol securing it to the frame-piece A.- The partsB C may be changed slightly Without materially changing the invention; f` r instanee7 I may cast or construct the parts B C without their pins or lugs, but may form holes for the purpose of connecting them es a hinge to the brig-frame; or I may form a pin upon the ornamented plte B, (instead of the opening,) and a. bend upon the4 end ot' part C, instead of its cylindrical head, so as to insert the former within the latter, in lieu of the latter ,within the former, as herein originally described. These parts B C may be either cast or made of sheet metal, with the plete B, with or without its ornament, but I prefer the former mode of construction herein set forth.
Having thus fully described my invention, what .I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Potent, is- 1. The metallic/ormimental plete B, having `eitl^ier nu opening or'stem iu its end for connecting it to the bar C, which ber is provided with a cylindrical head, UZ, 0r band', as described, so that when thus connected to the frame AA', they form a neet and substantiel hinge, as specified.
2. The bar Gand plate B, constructed substantially as herein described and used for the purposes specified. In testimony that I claim the foregoing improvementin travelling-bag hinges, Ihave hereunto set my hand this fourteenth daygpFebrumy, 1867. Y
' GEORGE HAVELL.
