BOOTH & DAVIS. Sewing-Machine Shuttle.
No. 65,052. Patented May 28, 1867.

EZEKIEL BOOTH AND JOB A. DAVIS, 0F i/VATERTOWN, YORK.
Letters Patent 1V0. 65,052, dated M'ay 28, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE SHUTTLES.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, EZEKIEL BOOTH and JOB A. DAVIS, both of Watertown, in the county of Jefferson, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Sewing-Machine Shuttles and we do hereby declare thet the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side view of the shuttle.
Figure 2, a top view or plan.
Figure 3, a longitudinal section and Figure 4, a. top view, with the bobbin removed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
This invention relates to the manner of securing the bobbin in the shuttle. The main part of the shuttle being made in the usual form, we insert in the bottom thereof a longitudinal spring, one end of which is secured to the shuttle near the rear end, and the other end provided with a socket or hearing for the end of the bobbin. In fig. 3 the bobbin Z1 is represented in its proper position, the front end bearing against the socket B, and held in place by the action of the spring 8. The spring 8 may be let into a recess in the bottom of the shuttle, so as to be out of the way of the bobbin. A recess is made in the front end of the shuttle large enough to admit the socket B, and allow the necessary play of the same. The spring s and socket B may be made of steel or any other suitable metal. The advantages of this arrangement for securing the bobbin consist in its. simplicity, cheapness, and durability. 1
Having thus described our improvement, what we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i The longitudinal spring 8, with the socket B atta hed, for the purpose of securing the bobbin, constructed and operating substantially as set forth.

JOB A. DAVIS. Witnesses:
