FDLDING WASHBENCH. @pplicaeio med nu. s1, 1900 (N0 Nudel.) v
INVENTOR WHA/55555: m63# UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER A. ARRowsMITH, OF URBANA, OHIO.
FOLDING WASHBENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 659,635, dated October 16, 1900.
Application filed March 31, 1900. Serial No. 10,994. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER A. ARROW- sMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Urbana, in the county of Champaign and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Washbenches; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in washbenches, and especially to a folding bench having pivoted bracketarms for supporting a tub or basket and hinged legs at the outer ends of said arms, which, with the bracket-arms, when notin use may be folded up against the standards of the bench.
The invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and adaptation of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of m'y irnproved folding washbench shown as opened out for use. Fig. 2 is a view showing the bench closed. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view showing the tilting draining-board.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A A designate the two standards of the folding bench, which standards are cut away on opposite edges, forming the curved shoulders A'. These standards are held together by means of suitable rounds B, and at the upper recessed ends of said standards a cross-piece C is fitted in said recesses. This cross-piece is designed for holdinga wringer, which maybe clamped thereto. To the outer faces of the standards,at locations slightly above and midway of said curved shoulders, are pivotally secured at their middle portions by means of bolts or other suitable means the bars or stays D, having apertured ends in which the pins e, carried at the inner. ends of the bracket-arms E, are mounted. The inner ends of said bracket-arms are preferably rounded, as shown, and are adapted to rest upon said rounded shoulders and turn thereon as the arms are swung to upright positions or lowered into horizontal positions.
When the arms E are in vertical positions, their outer edges are about flush with the edges 0. of the standards, and in whatever positions said arms may be disposed their inner rounded pivotal ends are held in contact with the rounded shoulders. To the outer ends of said bracket-arms are hinged the legs F, which are held together with suitable rounds F'.
The drip-board G is supported at its ends on the ends of the irons H, which latter are pivoted on the pins H', which are fastened to the inner faces of the standards at suitable distances below the wringer-carrying crosspiece. Said board, beingthus mounted, may be tilted in the positions shown in solid and dotted lines in the drawings, so that the water from the wringer as clothes are being wrung may be drained in either direction from the opposite sides or edges of the standards.
When the bench is not in use, it may be folded up in the manner illustrated and said legs and arms held by means of a hook and eye or other suitable means.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A folding washbench comprising the two standards having concaved shoulders A' on opposite edges thereof, a bar D pivoted at its middle portion to each standard, and midway between said shoulders, the arms E pivoted to the ends of said bars and having rounded ends adapted to rest and turn upon said shoulders, and the folding supports for the outer ends of said arms, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. Y
WALTER A. ARROWSMITH.
