EASEL ALBUM. (Application filed. Feb. 23, 1900.1

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN JAEGER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
EAS EL-ALBUM.
SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 657,544. dated. September 1 1, 1900.
l Application filed February 23, 1900. Serial No. 6,187. (No model.) i
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN JAEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Albums, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a combined album and easel or stand which shall present a neat and attractive appearance and which may be readily taken apart for transportation, shipped in a compact; form, and readily reassembled for use.
To these and other endsthe invention comprises the improvements hereinafter described and claimed.
The nature, characteristic features, and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following descri ption, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of an album and easel or stand embodying features of my invention. Fig. 2 is an illustrative view showing the album and parts of the easel or stand about to be assembled. Fig.3 is a broken section showing a detail of construction. Fig. 4 is a detail view of one of the hinges, and Fig. 5 shows a slight modification of my invention.
In the accompanying drawings, aand a are legs forming part of a detachableeasel or stand and cut away, as at a and a to accommodate a photograph-album or the like b, which may be hinged, as at a and a Detachably holding the legs together is a back or brace portion 'c,'which may constitute a receptacle for photographs and the like and which may be provided with alid. Forming part of or secured to the legs a and a, are guide pieces or ways d, adapted to receive theflanges of strips d", attached to the portion 0, and to limit the movement of the strips by the solid portion (1 I In transportation the various parts of the album and easel or stand are packed in asuit able receptacle and are received by the purchaser in a detached condition, thus insuring their receipt in perfect conditign.
. To assemble the different parts, all .that it is necessary to do is to take the legs aand 0t and fit or slide thepartsd andd together until the part d comes into contact with the portion d thus forming a rigid easel or stand for the reception of the album. The album",
. tachment of the hinge members.
which is provided with sections of hinges and pintles c, is shifted until the pintles are slipped into a hinge-section 6, attached to the easel or stand and adapted to receive the same, whereupon fastening devices, as pins 6 may be inserted to prevent accidental de- It will thus be apparent that the operation of assembling these parts is quite simple and that they may be at any time readily taken apart.
In use when the album has become filled the more antiquated photographs may be taken out and placed in the receptacle 0, thus making room in the album for photographs of a more recent type.
Instead of hinging thealbum to the portions cut away in the easel or stand, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, it may be hingedto the upper portion of the same, as is illustrated in Fig. 5, thus preventing any riding up of the back cover of the album, which might occur in turning over the leaves.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains that modifications may be made in detail without Hence I do not limit myself to the precise construcdeparting from the spirit thereof.
tion and arrangement of parts hereinabove set forth and illustrated in the drawings; but,
Having thus described the nature and objects of the invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In combination aportable easel or stand comprising legs constructed to receive an album, a back portion which isadapted tosupport the legs, flanged members and their complemental fixed ways interposed between the back portion and legs, and detachable hinges interposed between the stand and album, substantially as described.
2. In combination an album, a portable stand comprising legs cut away to receive the album, guide pieces or ways "on the legs, a back portion, strips mounted on the back portionand adapted to track in said Ways, and
detachable hinges interposed between the CHRISTIAN JAEGER.
I In presence of W. J. JACKSON,
K. M. GILLIGAN.
