UNITED STATES PATENT DE VER H. \VARNER, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE WARNER BROTHERS COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
GARMENTi-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATIQN forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 650,573, dated May 29, 1900.
Application filed March 21, 1900. Serial No. 9,544. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, DE VER II. IVARNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My invention relates to improvements in that class ofgarment-supporters which are attached to the corset and perform the twofold purpose of supporting the garments attached and of reducing the prominence of the abdomen. The supporters of this class heretofore in use have been so arranged that they must be detached from the corset whenever the corset is removed, and this undesirable feature forms a serious obstacle to the use of such a supporter. Instead of acting as an additional convenience it becomes an additional care. Furthermore, the easily-detachable supporters frequently become accidentally free, to the great discom fort and annoyance of the wearer.
The objects of my invention are to remedy these defects and to provide a garment-supporter which ,will be more efficient and serviceable. I attain these objects by the novel construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts hereinafter set forth, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my new construction in operative position, the dotted lines showing the parts disengaged. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a combined abdominal pad and garment-supporter also embodying my invention.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout both views.
a a indicate the ordinary suspension-tapes,
having end pieces I) b, provided with attachother at a point intermediate their length adapted to bring the point of fastening at the place where pressure is desired. Any convenient means of fastening the tapes to each other may be used, as a keyhole-slot and button, as in Fig. 1, or a tongue and buckle, as in Fig. 2. Should a pad be desirable, it may be arranged as at h h in Fig. 2, the pad having the suspension-tapes attached thereto, as at i 1., and attachments e e for fastening the same to the corset.
It will readily be appreciated that the pressure can be regulated by attaching the members of the garment-supporter to difierent points on the corset, so as to give different angles of strain, or that, if desired, the tapes may be left unattached and act as ordinary supporters. The supporter may be left attached to the corset when the same is removed, as the parts are easily detachable from each other. There is no danger of the supporter becoming accidentally free, as the means 6 6, while they may be detachable, are firmly fastened to the corset.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to' secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. A garment-supporter having independent suspension-tapes each adapted to be engaged with the corset and means for detachably uniting said tapes at a point intermediate their lengths, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a combined abdominal pad and garment-su pporter the combination of independ- DE VER II. VARNER.
