fasteners of that class or description which can be applied to a door from the inside, se'- curely locking the same, so that the door can not be opened from the opposite or outside by burglars or others.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a View of a portion of a door and its casing, showing the door closed and secured by my im proved fastener. Fig. 2 is an edge view ofthe device detached, certain portions of the parts being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the fastening-plate, and Fig. 4 is a similar view of the knife-plate. In the said drawings the reference-numeral l designates a door, and 2 its casing, of any ordinary or suitable construction.

rIhe numeral 3 designates what I term a knife-plate, consisting of a thin plate of metal having its inner end turned or bent at a right angle and formed with a knife-edge adapted to take into the casing, so as to hold the plate firmly in place. The outer or opposite end of this plate on one side is formed with a curved flange 4, with which a lockinglever, hereinafter described, is adapted to engage. Pivotally connected with this plate near its outer end are horizontal arms 5 of a fastening or securing plate 6, to which is pivoted a lever 7, having at one end a curved head 8, which engages with the flange 4 of the knife-plate.

The fastening-plate is also formed with a cross-piece 9, which engages with a groove 9 on one side of the fasteningplate when the latter is locked.

Upon reference to Fig. 3 it will be noticed that the arms 5 are each provided with a recess 5, open at their adjacent sides and also at one end, and these recesses are adapted to receive the pintles l0, projecting from opposite sides of the knife-plate 3. This permits of the readyassemblage of the parts and allows the same to be separated for convenience in carrying in the pocket. When in use, the curved head of the locking-lever overlaps these recesses sufficiently to prevent disengagement of the parts.

The operation will be readily understood. To fasten the door, the locking-plate is inserted between the door and the casing,with its knife-edge takingv into the latter. The fasteningplate is then turned over against the door, as seen in Fig. I, and the lockinglever turned so that its head will engage with the iiange 4 of the knife-plate, when the door will be securely fastened, preventing opening from the outside, as the lever cannot be withdrawn from the fiange except by a person inside of the room.

By the above construction I produce a very simple, reliable, and efficient door fastener or securer requiring no screws or other similar devices for attaching it in place and which can be readily carried in the pocket, thus enabling travelers and others occupying rooms in hotels to have easily-applied means for securing their doors. The device may be applied to all ordinary doors and be afxed at the top, side, or bottom, as desired or found convenient.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim isl. A door-fastener comprising a fasteningplate with arms having open-ended recesses, a knife-plate having pintles detachably engaged in said recesses and a locking-lever pivotally mounted upon the fastening-plate and adapted to hold said pintles in said rea fastening-plate with arms having openended recesses, a knife-plate having pntales detaohably engaged in said recesses' and having a knife end upon one side of its pivot and a ange upon the opposite side, and a lookxo ing-levery pivotally mounted lupon said fasj' neming-,plate and having acurved head adaptedto overlap said recesses and to engage the flange of the said knife-plate, all substantially as and for the purpose specified. l I l In testimony whereof I afX my signature I5 in presence of two witnesses-- g DAVID EDGAR LANTZ.
