To ALL WHoM ITMAY CONCERN- Be it known that I, F. R. SMITH, of Bennington in the county of Bennington, and State of Vermont, have invented a new and improved l3lind-Slat Fastening; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,.

clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming partof this speeication, in which- Figure l is an inner view of a blind with my improveinent applied to it. Figure 2 is a vertical'section of the same, taken in theline a' x, ltig. 1. Similar letters of referenee indicate like parts. lThis invention relates, toa'lnew and improved fastening to be applied to a window-blind to hold the slats in a closed or partially closed state, and prevent them when closed from being opened on the outer side of the blinds when the latter are shut.

A represents a window-blind, and D a series of slats, fitted in it as usual, so thatthey may be turned to,

let in or exclude the light, as may be required ,the several slats being connected by a rod, C, so that tbeymay all be moved or turned simultaneously.. These parts, being constructed and arranged in the usual way, do not require a special description. D represents a cam, which isfjirt'tached to the lower cross-piece a of the blindframe by a pin or pivot, b. This cam is simply a wheel, having the pin or pivot b passing eccentrieally through it, the wheel having a. pin or haiidle, c, projecting from it.

rllhis can] D is directly under the rod C of the slats B, so that the periphery' @f1-the' cam will bear against the lower end of the rod, and it will be seen that by turning the cam D the rod'C will .be raised or shoved upward, the portion of the edge of the earn which is the furthest from the pin or pivot b bearing against the rod when the slats 'are fully closed, and the cam holding the same in a closed state, in fact locking them, as the cam is not accessible from the outer side of the blind when the latter is-closed.V lflhe cam D may be constructed of either wood or metal, and it is prevented from turning casually by having tlie pin or pivot b draw the cam snugly against the lower cross-piece a of the blind-frame.

I' claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 'lhe cam D, applied to the blind-frame-to serve as a fastening for the slats, substantially asv herein shown and described.
