Description
@uitrit taten gamut @fitta 4LEANDER POLLOCK, OF FISHKILL LANDING, NEW YORK. Leners Patent No. 63,938, ma Aiwa 16, 1867.
IMPROVED SASH* ND BLIND-FHASTENER.
T0 ALL WHOM ITMAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, LEANDER PoLLooK, of Fishkill Landing, in the county of Dutchess, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window-Sash .and Blind-Fastener and Lock; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference lieing had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure .1 is an inside view of a window with my improvement attached.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional view of the same taken through the line a: x, iig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. l
My invention has for its object to 'furnish a convenient means for fastening and locking-window-sash and blinds; and it consists in the combination of a screw-bolt and nut with the sash and overlapping blind of the window, and in the combination of a slotted fork-shaped sliding-bolt and plate with the screw-bolt and inner or lower sash of the window, the whole being constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the window casing; B is the upper or outer sash; C is the lower or inner sash, and D are the blinds, the part 0Z`L of which overlaps the part d2 in the ordinary manner. E is the screw-bolt, the head e1 of which is milled for convenience in operating it. A part, c2, of the body of the bolt just below the head e1 is made square, as shown in gs. l and 2. The bolt E is made suiciently long to pass through the frames of both the upper and lower sashes,B and C, and enter the blind d1. Upon the end of the bolt E is cut ascrew-thread, which ts into the threads of the nut F, which is securely attached to the overlapping blind all. By passing the bolt E through the sash frames they are securely fastened, and by screwing the said bolt into the nut F Vthe blinds D are securely fastened. To the inner side of the upper bar ofthe lower or inner sash frame C is attached a plate, Gr, having a hole through it near one end for the passage ofthe bolt E, and having outwardly projecting angcs, g, upon the side edges of the other end. H is a sliding bolt, they forward end of which is made fork shaped to tit around the square partof the screw-bolt E and hold it from being turned. The sliding bolt H may be kept in place by the head of the screw-pin I, which passes through a slot in the said bolt H and screws into or is otherwise attached to the plate Gr; or the said sliding bolt I-I may be kept in place by bevelling its side edges and bevelling or grooving the inner sides of the anges g of the plate G. By drawing the sliding bolt H back the screw-bolt E will be released and may be turned to fasten or unfasten the blinds; but when pushed forward so that its forked end may takehold of the square part of the bolt E, the said bolt E will be securely locked. By making a hole through the lower bar of the lower or inner sash C, as'shown in iig. 1, the said sash may be fastened up when desired by means of the bolt E.
What I claim as new,` and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the screw-bolt E, provided with the square part e2 and the sliding bolt H, constructed and operating substantially as described and for the 'purpose set forth. i
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 29th day of August, 1866.
LEANDER POLLOCK.
