Description

'glatten tetes @nicht @fnf D. P.- L'AGEY, or onronnvILLE, WISCONSIN Letters Patent No. 164,112, dated Api-[ 23, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT 1N SHOWER BATES.
the .tlgehute retient in it tiges ettrts ilteut mit uniting pint nf tige stint.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, D. P. LACEY, of Orfordvillc, in thetate et' Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Portable Bath-Tubs; and I do hereby declare that the following is n clear, full, and exact description of the same, reference beinghad to theaccompanying drawings, and to the letters yof reference marked thereon, in which-,-
Figure 1 represents a. side elevation, with a part of the tub removed, in order`to exhibit the manner of working the valve.
Figure 2 is a perspective of the frame, showingr its mode ot construction,
Figure 3 represents the valve-cap; and f Figure 4 the bottom ofthe tub, showing'the perforations therein.
The object of this invention is to produce a bath-tub of such simplicity and economy that its advantages may bo enjoyed by almostall who choose to adopt this mode of bathing; and iu order, therefore, that others may avail themselves of its henets, I will now'describe its construction .and operation.
A. represents the bottom, which is provided with a 'circular hole iii-its centre for the purpose of holdings. vessel to catch the water as it falls; the bottom may be slightly inclined, toh'ztllow of the waste water running ott'. b I; represent the uprights, which are provided with holes in their bottom ends, which slip over pins in bottom A. B represents the cross-piece, with holes in each arm to tit on the' top ends oi' the nprights. e e are braces, which are hinged on to the uprights. a a ure the legs, and are adjusted in the suine manner :1s are the uprights b b. C represents an ordinary tub, which has a hole in its bottom over this hole is secured ametal plate or valve, which is perforated with small holes, as seen in fig. si. a is a standard, to which is pivoted the lever g. 7L represents the vulve-cap; said cap is provided with n. seinicircular piece ot` metal, 11 with a notch at one end to pre-vent the lever from slipping oi'; this fea-turc is clearly seen in tig. 1. l: is a hook by which the tub is suspended. m is a cord, which is seeured'to the lever; both ends of the cord should Vhang down, :is one opens the valve, while the other closes it.
Theopcration of my invention isas follows: The tub C is lled with water; the lever is now pulled by. onev end of the cord, which takes the direction of the notch on the circular piece ot' metal, thereby forcing up the I valve-cap, making un exit for the water. When it is desired te ,stop the fall of water, it is` only necessary to pull on the other end of' the cord, which at once t'orccs the-lever back on' the circular piece of metal, thus effectually and instantly shutting the water off. Should it be neccssnry,a piece ot' oil-cloth may be suspended, by means of hooks or otherwise, around the frame, in order to give greater privacy while performing your a-blution g which, after being performed, the attire arrangement may be easilyr :rnd quickly taken down and put out of sight.
Having thus rully described my invention, what I claim, und desire to secure' by Letters Patent, is-
1. Constructing and operating the valve, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The valve arrangement, constructed as specified, in combination with n. vessel for containing water, substantially as set forth. I
In testimony whereof I set my hand in presence ot' two witnesses.
D. I. LAGHI'.
Witnesses:
JOSEPH MERRILL. A. E. LACEY.
