CHARLES' n. GAGE, or FOND DU Lire, WISCONSIN.
Letters Patent No. 60,761, dated January 1, 1867.
IMPROVED WRINGER FOR CLOTHES AND MOPS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY COICERN:
B it known that I, CHARLES E. GAGE, of Fond du Lac, in the county of Fond du Lac, and State of Wisconsin,-have invented a new and improved Wringer for Clothes, Mops, Ste.; and I do hereby declare lthat` the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others` skilled iin-the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part-of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a front view of the wringer; and I Figure Q, a longitudinal vertical section, taken in the plane of the line a: ze.
Similar letters of reference'indicate like parts.
This invention relates to a novel constructed wringer especially designed for wringing out a mop, although it can be used vfor wringing clothesto much advantage.
A A, in the drawings, represent two side parallel bars, each made of a similar curved or bent shape, and provided with legs or supports, B B. AThese side bars are secured together by cross-bars o1' braces, C C, and by a foot-piece or board, D, at their lower ends. The side bars at their upper ends are slottedin the direction of their length, in which a roller, D2, is hung, extending acro'ss from one to the other, with another similar` roller, E, just above it, and in the said slots, which latter roller, E, is hung inthe upper end of two parallel side bars, F, that, extending down outside ofthe bars A, are connected together at their lower ends by across; bar or rod, G.. I
In the use of my improved wringer, having the construction and arrangement ot' parts, above explained, for the wringing of mops more especially, -the wringer 1s placed upon the door alongside of the pail or other receptacle containing the water, with its upper end or portionextcnding over the' top ofthe pail, when, placing one foot upon the foot-board D, and, with the other foot against the round, G, lift its frame upward, thus carrying or sliding the upper roller, E, away from the lower roller, D, between which then lower'oll drop the mop into the water of the pail; when, raising it therefrom, pull the upper roller, E, down upon the lower roller, D2; when, drawing the mop up through and between the said'rollers, the mop is thereby wrang outas is obvious without any further explanation. In using my improved wringer for wringing clothes, it is similarly placed 'with regard to the tub or other vessel containing the clothes, oriit may be clamped upon the tub, etc., when, by operating it in a similar manner to` that above described, the desired result can be accomplished.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent l The frame, composed of the slotted'side bars A A, foot-piece D, with roller D?, in combination with the frame C, carrying roller E, when arranged together substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
' CHARLES E. GAG-E.
