Beit known that we, CHARLES A. MCLARTY and GEORGE W. MOLARI'Y, citizens of the United States, residing at New York, (Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billiard-Oue-Ohalk Holders, of which the following is a full and'coinplete specification, such as will'enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to chalk-holders for billiard-players; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is adapted to be worn upon thefinger and held in the hand while playing the game of billiards in such manneras to be always ready for use, a further object being to provide a device of the class described which is adapted to be connected with one of the fingers of the hand and to be held in the palm thereof and which will not be in the way or occasion any inconvenience in playing a game of billiards.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a side. View of our improved chalk-holder; Fig. 2, a view at right angles thereto; Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a view similar to Fig. 1, showing a modified form of construction; Fig. 5, a view at right angles thereto, and Fig. 6 a

' perspective view showing the method of using the invention.

In the drawings forming part of this specification the separate parts of our improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference in each of the views, and in the practice of our invention we provide a device of the class above referred to which comprises a circular disk or plate 7, having an annular flange or rim 8 at one side thereof, which is preferably open at one side, as shown at 9, and the flange orrim 8 is split around the perimeter of the disk or plate 7 or both ends of said flange or rim to about a quarter of the circumference of the disk-or plate, as shown at 10, the object of thus splitting the flange or rim or separating the 'ends thereof from the disk or plate 7 being to form the ends of said flange or rim into spring portions 11, which are preferably slightly inwardly curved in order to hold the chalk 12.

The piece of chalk which we employ is cylindrical in form and preferably provided with a paper or similar covering 13 and is inserted into the flange or rim 8 and is securely held therein by the spring portions 11 of said flange or rim, and in practice the chalk is used on the tip of the one in the usual manner.

Secured to one side of the disk or plate 8 in any desired manner is an open spring ring 14, which is designed to be slid over one of the fingers of the hand, and in the form of construction shown in Figs. 1 to 3 this spring ring 14. is secured to a projection 15, formed on or secured to the disk or plate 7, and when the open spring-ring let is slid onto the finger the chalk-holder will extend inwardly adjacent to the palm of the hand,as will be readily understood, and the chalk may be readily and easily applied to the tip of the billiard-cue.

In the form of construction shown in Figs.

4 to 5 the spring-ring ll is hinged to the disk or plate 17, as shown at 16, and may be folded flush with said disk or plate, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4, or turned at right angles thereto and placed upon the finger, as hereinbefore described. We also preferably provide a cap 18, which is adapted to be slipped over the chalk and to be held thereon by friction, and while we have shown this cap only in Figs. 4: and 5 it will-be apparent that it may be applied to the chalk whenv connected with the holder, as shown in Figs. 1 to 3, inelusive.

. The separate sides of the ring 14. may be pressed together or separated farther when desired in order to accommodate the device to fingers of different sizes.

Our improved chalk-holder is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and it will be apparent that changes in and modifications of the construction described may be made without-departing from the spirit of our invention or sacrificing its advantages. 1

Having fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A chalk-holder,comprisinga disk or plate provided on one face with a projecting flange or rim adapted to receive and hold a piece of chalk, and at one edge with a projection extending in the same plane with said disk or plate, and provided with an open spring-ring arranged at right angles thereto, and extending when in use in a directionopposite to that of said flange or rim, substantially as shown and described.

2. A chalk-holder,comprisin g a disk or plate provided on one face with a projecting flange or rim adapted to receive and hold a piece of chalk, and at one edge with a projection extending in the same plane with said disk or plate, and provided with an open spring-ring arranged at right angles thereto, and extending when in use in a direction opposite to that of said flange or'rim, said flange or rim being open at one side and provided with inwardlydirected spring portions, substantially as shown and described.

3. A chalk-holder consisting of a circular disk or plate having an annular open flange or rim on one face thereof, the ends of the flange or rim formed by the opening being separated from the disk or plate so 'as to form spring portions, said flange or rim being adapted to receive and hold a piece of chalk, and said disk or plate being provided at one side with a ring through which one of the fingers may be passed, substantially as shown and described.

4. A chalk-holder, comprising a circular disk or plate having on one face a flange or rim which is adapted to receive and hold a piece of chalk, and at one edge thereof an open ring which projects when in use in a direction opposite to that of the flange or rim, substantially as shown and described.

5. A chalk-holder, comprising a circular disk or plate having on one face a flange or rim which is adapted to receive and hold a piece of chalk, and at one edge thereof an open ring which projects when in use in a direction opposite to that of the flange or rim, said ring being hinged to said disk or plate, substantially as shown and described.

6. A chalk-holder, comprising a disk orplate having an annular flange or rim on one face, and a projecting arm or extension at one edge, and an open spring-ring secured to said projecting arm or extension on the side thereof opposite said flange or rim, and projecting when in use at right angles to said disk or plate, substantially as shown and described.
