M T I I T l l l v I 1 I T GUM/nun \lJILLIAM J. STONE, OF HORTON, KANSAS.-
CHALK-HOLDER ATTACHMENT FOR BILLTARD-TABLES, 8w.
Application filed March 30, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Horton, in the county of Brown and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chalk-Holder Attachments for Billiard-Tables, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in chalk holders and has for its object to provide a chalk holder adapted to hold either square or round pieces of chalk, such as are used for chalking the ends of pool and billiard cues, the holder being secured to the billiard table or suspended from the ceiling by a spring-actuated cord or wire.
A further object of the invention is to provide a chalk holder which, when the chalk is pushed firmly into place, will be held in place until a hole is worn completely through the inner end of the chalk by the cue, thereby destroying the suction and permitting removal of the shell of chalk, which may be replaced by a new piece of chalk.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists of various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts, all as will be more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accom anying drawings and then specifically de Red in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved chalk holder. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4c is a plan view showing the device shaped for holding a round piece of chalk.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the body of the holder which is preferably Specification-of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 87,799.
made of an elastic material and is made hollow to form a socket A, as shown. The bottom of the holder has a flange with an opening A of lesser width or diameter than the socket, so as to form a chalk retaining shoulder A and it will be seen that the chalk L may be forced through the opening A into the socket A, the shoulder A of the elastic body closing in upon the edges of said chalk. Resilient arms B are embedded in the elastic body and have curved ends extending toward said flange and serve to stiffen said body to prevent the accidental removal of the chalk by stretching the same.
B is a reinforcing metal disk embedded in the body portion, and Odesignates a pin, one end of which is passed through the central portion of the disk B and the resilient arms B and has its end headed up, as at C. The outer. end of said pin projects beyond the body A and is provided with an eye C to which a cord or wire may be secured to suspend the holder from the ceiling. It will thus be seen that, when the piece of chalk is placed within the holder, it will be securely held in place allowing the chalk to be chambered out into a hollow shell by the continual use of the one and, after the cue wears a hole in the bottom of the chalk thereby preventing suction, the thin shell of chalk may be easily crushed and removed from the holder.
What I claim to be new is 1. A chalk holder comprising an elastic body having a socket leading in from its side and surrounded by an inwardly disposed flange, resilient arms embedded in the body and extending along the sides of the socket.
2. A chalk holder comprising a resilient body having a socket leading in from the side thereof and surrounded by an inwardly disposed flange, and resilient arms embedded in the body and disposed along the socket and having curved ends disposed toward the flange.
3. A chalk holder, comprising a resilient body having a socket leading in from the side thereof and surrounded by an inwardly disposed flange, resilient arms embedded in the body and extending along the socket,
end supporting member connected with ing member connected with the arms and the the arms. disk.

disposed flange, resilient arms embedded in Witnesses:
the body and extending along the socket, a STANLEY C. WILLIS, disk embedded in the body, and a support- E. P. TROMPETER.
