Description

J. W. ROLAND CHALK CONTAINER Nov. 29, 1949 Filed Nov. 22, 1946 (/5 Ski PH [2 oz H/VD Patented Nov. 29, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHALK CONTAINER Joseph W. Roland Aberdeen, Md. Application November 22, 51,946, Serial No. ll-1,520
1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to equipment for pool rooms and more particularly to containers for chalk adapted to be used for chalking cue tips.
The object of my invention is to provide a container adapted to receive and hold a piece of pool chalk and provided with a plurality of holes to permit a pool cue to be inserted into the container and to be chalked and to eliminate such 'difiiculties encountered heretofore as breakage of the pool chalk, staining the clothing with chalk, accumulation of chalk dust on the pool table and the like.
Another object of my invention is to provide a chalk container making possible a better and more complete chalking of the cue stick tip for a longer vperiod of time and to save chalk, by varying the position of the chalk in the container when holes are worn in the chalk so that a fresh surface or surfaces for chalking is presented as needed and substantially the entire chalk is eventually used up.
Other objects of my invention may appear in the following specification describing my invention with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention.
It is, however, to be understood that my invention is not to be limited and restricted to the exact construction and combination of parts described in the specification and shown in the drawing, but that such changes and modifications can be made, which fall within the scope of the claim appended hereto.
In the drawing:
Figure l is an elevational side view of the pool chalk container according to my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line '2-2 in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a chalk container, and
Figure 5 is an elevational side View of a modifled form of the chalk container accordin to my invention.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, the chalk container forming the subject matter Of my invention has a substantially cylindrical body l0. The interior of the bod I!) is hollow and has :a
square cross section as shown at H, so that it is adapted to receive a piece of billiard or pool chalk of the usual shape and size. A plurality of pairs of holes 12 are provided in the circumferential wall of the body Ill and are arranged so that the vertica1 longitudinal center plane of each pair of holes [2 extends parallel to a vertical diametrical center plane of the cylindrical body and that the axes of each pair of holes [2 is laterally offset relative to the corresponding vertical center plane of the body ID.
The holes [2 of each pair are arranged furthermore, so that the same are laterally and vertically offset relative to each other distances approximately equal to the diameter of each hole. This staggered arrangement of the holes permits substantially the entire chalk to be used up because a 96 displacement of the chalk presents a fresh surface to each hole l2.
The lower end of the cylindrical body I0 is closed by a bottom l3 having a centrally located hole I l therein of a somewhat greater diameter than the diameters of the holes [2 in the circumferential wall of the body In.
The upper portion of the cylindrical body 10 is :provided with an outside thread [5 and a screw cap [6 is adapted to engage this thread and to close the open top end of the body Ill.
On the inside of the top of the screw cap [6 an annular boss I! is formed integrally with "said cap and is arranged coaxially therewith. It extends downwardly therefrom into the cylindrical body l0 and is adapted to engage a piece of pool chalk I8 placed into the hollow in said body.
A suspension ring I9 has a downwardly extending stem 20 projecting through a centrally located hole 2| in the screw cap IS. A swivel disk 22 is fastened to the lower end of the stem 2!] and is located inside the annular boss I! on the screw cap [6.
In Figure 5 a modified form of the :pool chalk container according to m invention is illustrated. The construction Of this modified container is practically identical with the construction described above, but the body 23 of the modified container is substantially globular. The body 23 has a hollow 24 therein of a square cross section adapted to receive a piece of pool chalk. On the upper part of the body 23 a short outwardly threaded neck 25 is provided and a screw cap 26 is adapted to engage this neck and close the open upper end of the body. An annular boss 21 extends downwardly from the inside of the top of the screw cap 26, with which it is integrally and coaxially formed. The inner end of said boss is adapted to engage a piece of pool chalk placed in the body 23.
A plurality of holes 28 are provided in the body 23 so that a billiard one can be inserted therethrough for the purpose of chalking the tip of said cue (not shown) A suspension ring 29 is attached, to the screw cap 26 in the manner described above for the suspension ring I 9.
The above description shows clearly how a piece of pool chalk can be secured in a container and how a, billiard cue tip can be chalked by inserting the cue in :any one of the holes in the body of the container without soiling the hands or clothing with the chalk.
Having described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A container for pool chalk including a :body formed with a central cavity adapted to receive a piece of pool chalk therein, said body being formed with a circumferential series of substantially laterally-directed holes permitting access to said chalk, adjacent holes being laterally and vertically offset relative to each other, said holes being disposed in pairs with the holes of each REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
