WILLIAM S. LUCKETT, OF SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PENN- SYLVANIA.
GOLF KIT.
Application led March 8, 1922.
To all whom t mwg/ concern.'
Be it known that I, VILLiAM S. LUCKETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield Township, in the county -of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Golf Kits, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference generally to yimprovements inv special article carriers and more particularly relatesto an improved golf kit and supporting stick therefor. l
It is the principal aim and obliect of this invention to provide a kit having separate open compartments for the reception of the shank portions of Vgolf sticks, the compartments being preferably arranged in the body of the kit so that the sticks when supported therein will be inclined toward each other and will tend to contact with each other at a point remote from the kit but in substantial alignment with the longitudinal axis thereof, to facilitate carrying the kit, which is, of course, also provided with a hand grip and shoulder engaging strapv asl well as ball receiving means,
As an additional and equally import-ant object the invention contemplates in con'ibi nation'withthe kit the provision of an improved supporting stick adapted to be car-A ried in the hand or within the kit when'not in use, but being removable therefrom for engagement with the ground, means being provided thereon for receiving the hand grip or other engaging parts of the kit to `support the kit and the golf sticks therein in a convenient position for the golfer or player, especially one who is without the assistance of` a caddy.
More specific objects of the `invention reside in the provision of a golf kit of novel construction with a supporting stick .having a removable ground engaging and supporting prong, which when the stick is notin use may be accommodated in the upper grip receiving portion to facilitate carrying of the same in the kit or in the hand as a cane.
Among the other aims and objects of the invention may be recited the provision of an article of the above mentioned character with a view to compactness and W -frein the number ofv parts are few, the construction Serial No\ 542,046.
simple, the cost of production low and the efficiency high.
Further objectsv vas well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more readily apparent from the following description taken in connec tion with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.
The invention is clearly illustrated inthe accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of the invention showing the kit, with the sticks therein, suspended from the support` Figure 2 is a top plan view of the kit,
Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2, and,
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary ele` vational detail partly in section of the supporting stick.
Similar, characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now', more particularly, to the accompanying drawings, there is provided the novel golf kit generally indicated by the numeral 1 adapted for association with the improved supporting stick indicated in its entirety by the numeral 2.
The kit may consist of a substantially cylindrical open body 3 having a plurality 'of golf stick receiving compartments 4 arranged therein. The' compartments may comprise a lplurality of tubes or the like which may be formed' of any of several materials including light metal, leather, canvas or hardened or soft rubber of sufiicient rigidity to prevent collapsing thereof. The tubes may also be fitted with outer coverings 5 to facilitate the securing of the same to each other and to the upper and lower edges of the body of the kit in any suitable marinertubes while the handle portions will be inclined toward each other to Contact near their extreme outer ends at a point substantially in alignment with the axisof the center tube, this arrangement greatly facilitating the carrying of the kit with the clubs arranged therein. A ball receiving pocket 8 is provided for the kit and may besecured to the outer vsurface of the body thereof. 'lofacilitate carrying and supporting oi' the kit a hand grip 9 and a shoulder engaging strap l() may be connected thereto, l
With a view toward providing the improved supporting stick the lower end of the shank 11 may be fitted with a removable ground penetrating prong 12 having a disklike ground engaging element 13 thereon, being adjustable upward and downward in ac'- cordance with the firmness of the ground' to be engaged7 which facilitates supporting, while the upper end of the shank may carry a kit receiving and supporting member 14 having desirably an attaching .portion 152 and opposed upright portions 16- carried thereby, the portion 15 being also formed with a socket 17 for removably receiving, at times. the pointed end of the prong.
It is apparent that when not in. use the prong may be received in th'e socket and the Vstick inserted in the center compartment of the kit.
On the other hand' when it is desired to use the same the stick may be removed from the kit, the prong connected to the outer end of the.; shank and jabbed into the ground vwhereupon the kit may be supported thereby when the hand grip is engaged with the receiving portion therefor.
Of course, it will be understood that various changes might he made invsize, shape and material, and yet be within the scope of my invention.
It is believed in view of the foregoing description that a further detailed description of the invention is entirely unnecessary.
`Likewise, itis believed that thel advantages,
both constructional and commercialfotl the invention will be readily apparent.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is 1. A golf kit including a substantially cylindrical open ended body of flexible material and possessing suiicient rigidity to maintain its cylindrical form, a plurality of open ended stick receiving tubes therein and of a material similar to the material of theI body, one ot' the tubes being arranged in the center and the other tubes in cylindrical series and intimately connected with theY ing and supporting prong having a Hange associated with one end of the stick for fa-. cilitating the supportingof the stick but removable therefrom to permit ot the stick being inserted in one of t-he compartments', and a kit receiving member engaged with the opposite end of the shank and provided with l a socket adapted to receive the pro-ng when detached.
