TO ALL WHOM II MAY CNCERN:
Be it known that I, HIRAM BECKWITH, of Grass Lake, in the county of Jackson, and State of Michigan, 'have invented a new and useful improvement in Roof Scaffold Bracket; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable vthoseskilled i-n the art to make and use! the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object oi' this invention is to provide a safe, portable, and convenient;A bracket for building scaffolds upon roofs where the roofs are covered or'being covered with shingles; and the invention consists in thearrangement shown in the drawing.
Figure 1 represents the bracket complete, as when in use on the roof.' t
Figure 2 represents a portion of the same, it being the brace. I
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parte.; Y Y
A represents the'shingle of thc roof. I3 is an angular piece of lnetal, one portion of which forms n. blade which rests on the shingle; the other portion, which stands at about right angles with the blade, ishinged at the top to another piecev of metal of nearly the saine forni.A C represents this second angular piece, the lower portion of which forms a blade like the first, and the other part standing also atv right' angles, or nearly so,'with the blade. D is a brace, which is attached to thislast-described piece C, and when the bracket stands upon the root', as represented, the lower end of this brace D enters the shingle, forming a foothold, which prevents thc bracket from'slipping. A side view of this brace is seen in iig. 2. The bladesA are forced up under the shingle, as-seen in the drawing; when the end of the. brace D (which has teeth formed-on it, as seen,) enters the shingle below and prevents the weight upon tbc scaffolding from raising 'the shingle, and the bracket from slipping. The rrangement and operation are so plainly shown in the drawing that no further description is necessary.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isf- A i A roof bracket, constructed substantially ashcrein shown and described, with two blades with' their back pieces, and supported by the brace D, for the purposes set forth.' Y HIRAM BECKWITH.
