UNITED STATES PATENT onincn.
THURSTON A. WILKERSON, 0F WINDOM, TEXAS.
SCAFFOLD-BRACKET.
Application filed October 30,- 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THURSTON A. WIL- KERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vindom, in the county of Fannin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scaffold- Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for supporting the ends of scaffold or ladder hooks on shingled roofs, and has for its object the provision of a device by which the strain on the hook is distributed over a considerable area of the roof, and also that is so constructed that all danger of the hook becoming detached from the bracket is eliminated.
My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved bracketshown in place on a shingled roof and a scaffold hook in position, Fig. 2, a top plan view of the bracket, and Fig. 3, a cross section on the line mw of Fig. 2.
In the drawings similar reference characters will be used to designate corresponding parts in the several views.
My improved scaffold bracket is, as shown, adapted for use as a roof climber, having the base portion 2, and the upright portions 3 formed integral with the base portion 2. The lower edges of the upright portions 3 are inclined at an angle of forty-five de grees to the perpendicular and formed with integral lateral flanges 4 to which are secured the rods 5 having their ends formed with engaging points 6. The base portion 2 is provided with a heel socket 7 a toe loop 8 and an instep strap 9 to secure the device on the foot when used as a climber.

tion 2, and 11 a cross plate secured under the hole 9 by means of flanges 12 secured to upright portions 3. 7
It will be apparent that when the device is used as a bracket to engage the end of the scaffold hook indicated at A, the end of the hook is inserted in the hole 10 and rests on cross-plate 11. The angular construction of the lower edge of the upright portions 3 relative to the base portion 2 is designed to counteract the declivity of shingle roofs, on which they may be used, so that said base portion and plate 11 are substantially horizontal when the device is in place on the roof, and the hook will not slip from its position on the plate, the sides of the hole 10 also contributing to this end. Furthermore the cross-plate 11 acts as a brace for the upright portions 3 when the device is used as a roof climber as well as a scafiold bracket.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is A scafliold bracket comprising a base portion, upright side portions secured to the side edges of said base portion and having their lower edges inclined to the plane of the base portion, roof engaging members on said inclined edges, a cross-plate secured to the upright side portions and parallel with said base portion, said cross-plate bracing said upright side portions, and the base portion having a hole therein located above the cross-plate aforesaid to receive a scaflold hook the end of which is adapted to rest upon the cross-plate aforesaid.
In testimony whereof I hereto aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
TI-IURSTON A. W'ILKERSON.
