Description
SGAFFOLD. No. 267,515. I Patented Nov. 14, 1882.
Zmvgmon: .m f'' BY' I I ATTORNEYS.
write Arewr ROBERT M. GOOGE, OF FLEMING, GEORGIA.
SCAFFOLD.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,515, dated November 14, 1882,
I Application filed August 8,1882. (No model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT M. GOOGE, of Fleming, in the county of Liberty and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Scaffold, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved folding scaffold which can be held to a house, bridge, tree, bridge-post, mast, &c.. at any desired height, and which will be held firmly and securely, and will form a safe and reliable platform for the laborer.
The invention consists of a vertical board provided at its lower end with a stirrup, be-
u tween which and the lower end of the upright board the end of a horizontal board is placed, which horizontal board is braced by chains attached to tlie vertical board. Grabs or books for holding the vertical board in the desired place are attached to the upright board.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification,in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding; parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved scaffold. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same.
The upright board A is provided at its lower end with a strong stirrup, B, which is held a short distance from the lower end of the board A and parallel with the same. At or near its upper end the upright board A is provided with a cross-bar, O, on that side of the board from the wall, &c., and to the end of this crossbar 0 strong grabs 0r pointed hooks D are jointed or held by means of eyes, so that these grabs can be swung easily in any desired direction.
A cross-bar, E, is attached to the upright board A, at or near the upper end, on the side that rests against the wall, 850. To the ends of this bar E chains F are attached, the lower ends of which are attached to the ends of a cross-bar, G, on a horizontal board, B, one end of which is adapted to be passed in between the lower end of the board A and the stirrup B.
When the scaffold is folded the boards A-and H rest flat on each other, but when the scaffold is erected for use one end of the board H is passed in between thelower end of the board A and the stirrup B, so that it will be at right angles to the board A, and is held in this po sition and braced by means of the chains FF.
If the scaffold is to be secured to a building, bridge-post,truss, tree, 850., the board A rests flat against the object, and the pointed ends ofthe hooks or grabs are driven into this object, and thus hold and support the scaffold.
This scaffold is firm and secure, and forms a strong and secure platform for the workman.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. Ina scaffold, the combination, with the vertical board A, provided with a stirrup, B,
at its lower end, of the horizontal board H,'
adapted to be passed between the lower end of the boardAand the stirrup B, braces connecting the boards A and H, and devices for securing the board A on a house, post, tree, &c., substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a scaffold, the combination, with the upright board A, of the stirrup B at the lower end of the same, the horizontal board H, the grabs or books D, and the braces F, substantially-as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a scaffold, the combination, with the upright board A, of the stirrup B at the lower end of the same, the board H, the cross-bars O,E,and G,the brace-chains F, and the books or grabs D, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
R. M. GOOGE. Witnesses:
