Description

No. 636,544. Patentd Nov. 7, I899. A. MILLER.
MOP HEAD.
(Application filed Nov. 16, 1896.)
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTUS MILLER, OF STpPAUL, MINNESOTA.
MOP-HEAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 636,544, dated. November '7, 1899.
I Application filed November 16, 1896- Serial No. 612,325. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Heads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation showing parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line a: m, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a detached View of the screw-threaded hook and its nut.
The present invention has relation to mopheads; and it consists in the diiferent parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawlngs.
In the accompanyingdrawings, A represents a portion of the mop-handle, which is constructed in the ordinary manner and may be of any desired length. To the mop-handle A is attached the metal head or body B, which is substantially of the form shown in the drawings, the bottom or lower portion of which is provided with the bar a, which bar is preferably formed integral with the head. Upon the head B is located the cap 0, which cap is U-shaped in cross-section and is provided with the apertures or openings b, through which the parallel arms 0 are passed.
The cap 0 is formed U-shaped in cross-section, so that when it is drawn down so as to rest upon the curved portions continued from the outer ends of the bar a the material forming the mop proper will be clamped or held between the inner faces of the cap 0. The screw-threaded hook D is substantially of the form shown in Fig. 3, and, as shown, it is provided with the screw-threaded nut d, which nut is for the purpose of securely holding the cap down in proper position to clamp the mop material. In use, to insert the mop, or, in other words, to attach the material to the mop-head, the hook D is removed after the nut d has been taken ofi, which leaves the cap 0 free to be moved away from the bar a, and after the material has been placed over the bar a and a hole cut through the material the hook D is placed in position and the nut (1 turned down upon the screw-threaded portion, so as to clamp the cap 0 down upon the material forming the mop proper.
In order to locate the cap 0 upon the parallel arms a, said cap should be placed in position before the top or upper portion of the head B is finished or formed.
Having fully described my invention, what -I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- As an improved article of manufacture, the combination of the mop-head B, consisting of the bar a, and the parallel bars 0, a cap located upon the parallel bars and adjustable thereon, and a screw-threaded hook provided with a screw-threaded nut connecting the bar a and the cap, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
AUGUSTUS MILLER.
