Description

W. A. YOUN IE. TUMBLEB HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED DEO.17
Patented June 14, 1910.
WILLIAM A. YOUNIE, OF CHELSEA, MASSACHUSETTS.
TUMBLER-HOLDEE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 14. 1910.
Application filed December 17, 1906. Serial No. 348,170.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM A. YOUNLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chelsea, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tumbler-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to glass tumblerholders and more particularly to soda water tumbler-holders, the object being to provide a holder so constructed that it will expand so as to fit different size tumblers.
Another object of my invention is to provide a holder formed of a base carrying wire loops which are bent at one end to form a handle and bent to form loops between said handle and the other end, forming flexible gripping members.
lVith these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drzuvings forming a part of this specification :Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved tumbler holder. Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on lines 3-3 of Fig. 2, showing the manner of securing the ends of the wire forming the handle in the base. Fig. A is a section taken on the lines -l4c of Fig. 2, showing the manner of securing the other ends of the wire in the base. Fig. 5 is a section taken on lines 55 of Fig. 2.
In the drawing A indicates an inwardly tapering base ring, which is provided with an inwardly projecting flange A upon which the tumbler is adapted to rest. Spaced openings A are formed in the beveled side portion A of the ring through which the ends B of a pair of wires B are adapted to extend and be soldered to the ring on its inside. The wire B extends upwardly and outwardly at B then upwardly and looped at B then downwardly and looped at B*, then upwardly and looped at B then downwardly and looped at B, then upwardly and looped at B forming a series of open loops adapted to grip the side of the glass. The wires B are then bent downwardly and looped at B then upwardly outwardly and downwardly at B, forming a handle. The ends are then passed through spaced openings A formed in the opposite side of the beveled edge portion A of the ring and soldered to the under side of the ring. The wires are then bound together by a strand of wire C adjacent the loop B so as to prevent the same from spreading and at the same time bringing the loops together so as to conform to the shape of the base.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have provided a very novel tumbler holder for soda-tumblers which will readily adjust itself to fit the different size tumblers in soda fountains.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is As a new article of manufacture, a tumbler holder comprising an inwardly tapering base ring provided with a flange forming a support for a tumbler, said base being provided with spaced oppositely disposed openings, wires passing through said openings secured to the inside of said ring by solder, said wires being bent upwardly and outwardly and then downwardly and secured together to form a handle adjacent one end and bent to form oppositely disposed open end loops forming spring gripping members adapted to embrace the tumbler when arranged on the flange of the ring.
