UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE KELLY, OE MINERAL POINT, WISCONSIN.
BURNER FOR HEATlNG-STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 636,433, dated November '7, 1899.
Application filed July 28, 1898. Renewed August 8, 1899. Serial No 726,596. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE KELLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mineral Point, in the county of Iowa and State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Torches or Burners for Heating-Stoves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in oil heating-stoves, and more particularly to the construction of the torch or burner therefor; and the object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, economical, and practically safe and eflicient device for this purpose.
To this end the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the device, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying drawings show my invention in the best form now known to me; but many changes in the details may be made within the skill of a good mechanic without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the claim at the end of this specification.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved heating-stove. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the burner or torch with the cap elevated above the burner-tube. Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of the torch or burner, partly in section. Fig. 4 is a similar end view of the same.
1 denotes the body of the stove; 2, the base; 3, the bottom, and 4 a horizontal diaphragm arranged between the body and the base-section and formed with a radial slot or recess 5 to receive the burner-tube. The basesection 2 is provided with a series of trans- Verse perforations 6 6 to admit a current of air to the base-section, so as to prevent the torch or lamp from becoming unduly heated.
the heat of the burner.
13 represents a vertical sleeve or collar arising from the top 8 to receive the burnertube 14, the lower end of which rests upon the bottom 15 of the receptacle 7. The lower end of this tube 14 is formed with a series of longitudinal slots or slits 16 16, so that the oil may have free access to the wick 17. This wick is composed of any suitable non-combustible fabric, such as mineral wool or the like, properly packed within the tube, so as to conduct the oil by capillary action to the exposed end of the burner-tube.
18 denotes a removable cap to prevent the evaporation of the oil when the stove is not in use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is'
A burner for heating-stoves, comprising the oil-receptacle 7, formed with the chamber 10, a heat-non-conducting material 12 packed in said chamber, the vertical sleeve 13, the longitudinally-slotted wick-tube 14, removably secured in said sleeve, and the non-combustible wick packing confined within said wicktube, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE KELLY.
