Description

o. F. MoNFoRT.`
FLAT-IRON HEATER.
No. 1'90'.,Z37; PatentedMiazy1,187'?.`
MPETEHS. PHOTOJJTHDGRAFMER. WASHINGTON. Dv C1 UNITED STATES PATENT @Frida OSCAR F. MONFORT, OF BURLINGTON, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLAT-IRON HEATERS.
Specieation forming part of Letters Patent No. 190.237, dated May 1, 1877; application filed February 21, 1877.
To all whom it 'may concern:-
Be it known that I, OSCAR F. MoNFoRT, of the city of Burlington, in the county of Des Moines and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flat-Irons, Which improvement is fully set forth in the following specilication and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved at-iron. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
The object of my invention is to furnish a dat-iron which will be self-heating, and maintain its heat While in use.
A is gasoline, benzine, alcohol, coal-oil, or
, other duid which will produce the necessary gas for burning. B is a cotton Wick, incased in an iron pipe, extending from the lower end of the pipe attached to the reservoir I to the gas-generator C, and carries over the fluid by capillary attraction to the gas-generator G. The wick being inserted so deep in the fluid prevents the escape of gas into the reservoir, the pressure forcing the gas, through the smallopenings in the gas-generator C, against the bottom E E. D is a cup, into which the center jet or llame is directed, which causes it to react upward against the gas-generator C, thus heating it suflcient to generate the gas. The remaining jets or flames are directed against and among the pyramidal points F, which divides the ame, and thus increases its heating-surface. J is a middle plate., above which are openings, permitting a free circulation of air, to prevent the pipe containing the Wick and the top of the tlat iron from becoming heated. G is a chimney to allow the heated air to escape, and thus maintain a free circulation of air to support the combustion of the gas. K is a Wooden handle, secured to its place by a rod of iron extending from the Wick-pipe to the chimney G. H is Wire-gauze or perforated tin, which allows the fresh air to enter, but Will not permit the ame to escape.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination ot' the reservoir A. Wick-tube B, and gas-generator C in a datiron heater, substantially as described.
2. The combination, in a flat-iron heater, ot'
the gas-generator C, supplied with oil or other uid, as described, the cup 1), and the points F.
3. The combination of reservoir A, tube B, generator C, cup D, base E, having the points F, chimney G, plate J, with the chamber above it, and non-conducting handle K.
