VAPOR-BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,067, dated March 2, 1880. 'Application filed May 31,1379,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FoRDYcE A. LYMAN, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor-Burners 5 and I do hereby decla-re the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will. enable others skilled iu the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to vapor-stoves; and. it consists in a construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view-on a plane passed through the vaporizingchamber and at right angles to the feed-pipe. Fig. 3 is a separate view of the burner. Fig. 4 is a detail plan view of the cup-shaped support and the burner.
A is a feed-pipe leading from the oil-reservoir to the vaporizingchamberB. The vaporizing-chamber B is provided with the needlevalve rod O, which passes through a suitable stuiing-box at D. rllhe upper extremity of this valve-rod is screw-threaded, and engages with a screw-threaded eye-bearing, E, which latter is perforated for the passage of vapor to the jet-orifice.
F is the top of the stove, made in any suitable form' for supporting the vessel or article to be heated. G is a cup-shaped support for the burner H. This merely rests upon the openworked bottom of the cup-shaped support G, and said bottom is formed with an opening, c, through which the vapor from the vapor-jet enters the burner.
The burner H is suitably perforated, so that the mixture of vapor and air may emerge therefrom andbe burned.
The lower portion of the burner is provided with lateral lugs h, which project inwardly therefrom, and have end bearing against the annular projection f,formed about the vaporopening in the open-worked bottom of the cupshaped support. These lugs maintain said burner in position within said support Gr.
The form of construction shown in th'e drawings consists of depending arms L, secured to the under side ofthe stove-top, and having i horizontal inwardly-projecting anges a, Von

Heretofore, among other forms of vaporstoves, a burner has beenA supported below the stove-top, and hence my invention does not cover the broad principle of so locating a burner, but covers means substantially the same as those hereinafter claimed, by which I accomplish this result. l
rllhe operation of this device is as follows: Oil having been introduced through the tubes A and B, it is permitted to liow out through thesubheating-jets, and, bei-ng lighted, raises the temperature of the vaporizing-chamber to a vaporizin g heat. rIhis dame will then be governed to burn with greater or less freedom and generate vapor with greater or less rapidity. rlhe needle-valve may be then opened. The jet from the jet-orifice will then rise in an exactly central line, drawing with it the adjacent air. The vapor-jet and the air being thus commingled within the burner H,'the resulting flame will be found to be almost perfectly blue and the combustion perfect.
In order to prevent fluctuations of the flame, I propose to ll the chamber B, to a greater or less extent, withiron chippin gs or their equivalent.
